Cowardice?
This makes me want to puke!!!!

You took the words out of my mouth. Cowardly bullying scum and some treat human beings like that as well.
Can't watch the video. We won't ban it. We're more concerned about treading on toes than slitting throats.
I think the problem is that slaughterhouses shouldn't employ the very people that are prepared to work in them.
The UK political estabishment has long been infultrated by the state of Israel.
There are Friends of Israel sections of the Conservatives, Labour and LibDems, and FOI make donations to friendly candidates and MPs. Which means a disproportionately high number of members of the Government would not want to upset UK jews with a ban on kosher meat.
The result, there is no support for a ban amongst any of the main parties.
Anyone complaining about the unethical treatment of animals in a slaughterhouse - of any description - who is not a vegan, is by definition, a hypocrite.

To protest about a degree of cruelty to animals - which is what this is - is meaningless.

All slaughtered animals are inhumanely treated, so it is pointless to get teary eyed about some that are treated worse than others in this way - it is the degree of cruelty that causes the outrage, not the notion of cruelty per se.

Anyone who works in a slaughterhouse is unlikely to have a particularly compassionate attitude towards animals - killing them is a task to completed, being nice to them is not within the remit of the job.

But to return to the OP - British governments allow far too much sensitivity in terms of barbaric cultural practices - of which this is merely one - because they fear a backlash of negative publicity, and more importantly - loss of votes.
Gromit, the Jews are not the people the powers that be worry about upsetting. The problem is that this form of slaughter is becoming the norm and few meat eaters now have a choice of whether they eat animals slaughtered by this method or not.
Naomi...(13:21)....I bought some sausages and bacon at the weekend.

How can I tell if they were slaughtered by Halal or Kosher methods ?
If there was a national referendum on halal/kosher slaughter it would be banned.
mikey
Please tell me that was TIC. Have to ask nowadays on this site. :-)
Naomi,
My butcher sells normal meat and halal meat. I have a choice.
If people were bothered, they would ask for non halal meat, and if it wasn't available, or if they did not get an assurance the meat wasn't halal, then they would not purchase the halal meat if they thought it was cruel. But no one does that.
There is probably a case that meat must be labelled if slaughted that way, and restaurants to have to state if the meat is halal. Many already do that, but then they have EDL numpties demonstrating outside their establishments.
Mikey, I don't know how you can tell. As I said, meat eaters don't have a choice.
Point proven.
If Mikey was bothered, he would have asked before he made his purchase - He didn't.
Naomi,
They can ask.
Gromit
Are EDL affiliated to P.E.T.A, as well ?
a-h, killing any creature could be considered cruel to some degree but gratuitous and unecessary cruelty is unacceptable. I recently saw a video of cruelty in a French 'organic' slaughter house where sheep were thrown into pens by operatives who were obviously unfit to work with animals.
Gromit, //My butcher sells normal meat and halal meat. //

My butcher doesn't differentiate and I don't know any butcher who does. Perhaps I live in the wrong area.
Not likely a jew or Muslim is going to eat bacon is it ?
