When this was reported on the BBC news, it was linked to the lack of support shown by some European countries to accept more migrants.

Surely this is not the answer because the more we accept, the more will risk their lives in the attempt to gain entry to Europe.

What we should be doing is dissuading them from coming in the first place.

But then you get idiots like Merkel inviting anyone and everyone to come to Germany.

Stupid woman.
And what form would that dissuasion take AOG?
What we should be doing is the one thing nobody wants to suggest, that is a naval blockade of Libya by an international force.
why is the EU collectively not doing anything about those responsible for the drownings? are they happy for the unscrupulous to make millions out of the smuggling operation?
I thought these people had gone from Syria to Turkey and then go to Greece, so would a blockade in Libya help here Khandro?
We, the international community, need to do more to stop the civil war in Syria.

Another 16 people have died of starvation in Madaya, a town under siege by the government of Syria.

Well to stop welcoming them with open arms would be a start, and then something similar to what's suggested by Khandro.

The loss of these poor souls lives, must be firmly placed in the hands of those right-on liberal lefties, who
have done everything possible in their power to encourage these people to come to Europe.
It must continue for as long as the parents of these children learn that there's no land of milk and honey regardless of what those temporarily in charge of Germany may say and content themselves with a safe haven closer to home.
Perhaps a bit less faith in a god and more in weather forecasting would help too.

Everybody AOG.
'stop welcoming them with open arms'. (We seem to be back at the start) How do we do that AOG?

Easy, "stop welcoming them with open arms".
I saw Nigel Farage on the television the other morning and and he said that "we(the uk) should not accept any refugees /migrants from Calais as it would encourage more migrants to risk their lives crossing the mediterranean"

and I think he has that spot on, if we take people from the syrian refugee camps we will know who there are and it will save lives.

Dave.
If someone can tell me where the war is happening in Turkey I might understand what they're fleeing from.
Yes, I have to keep checking war hasn't broken out in France, Naomi, reading some of the comments on AB.

If things get any worse in Sweden, we will be asked to take in Swedish refugees.
Only way to cut 3rd world migration to Europe is to defer benefits to claimants till they are domiciled in host country for 3years ?
