Ballymena is prime bigot country. Even so, the reactions the burkha wearer evoked could be seen all all across Northern Ireland. I saw yobs yell from a passing van at a woman wearing a headscarf on University Road.

Under a burka her eyes would have been hidden too.
I bet tonyav would look good in one.....
Ah they don't have a small slit then. Thought they did.
Would I be right in saying that we could not walk around in low cut tops and short skirts in their country? If the answer is yes, then why should we allow them to dress like this in our country? Is it on religious grounds?
barsel - what is their country?
//Is it on religious grounds?//

Covering the face is not a religious requirement. It's become a political uniform.
OG, a burqua has a sort of lace grid over the eyes incorporated in to the rest of it so you can't see the eyes.

A niqab is the veil that covers all the face except the eyes.
It's debatable whether or not women wear the burka on religious grounds. They are many branches of Islam, just like Christianity. Some Muslims say the burka isn't a religious requirement, others say it is.
They say what suits them. It isn't.

The Muslim countries hc4361.
Oh I get what you mean hc. I suppose you mean that some of these women who wear the burka (sp?) might be from this country.
In Turkey western women certainly dress half naked in public. Pakistan is liberal and has no dress code so wear what you want.
Other countries varies and indeed, regions of the same country, varies. Saudi is very strict but in the expats compounds westerners dress how they please (and drink alcohol).
I suppose in this country they would need one of these.

No barsel, I mean Muslims come from lots of countries and each country has it's own traditions, customs and laws. Some Muslim countries insist foreign travellers dress in a certain way, others don't.

I like that brolly :)
there are different ones, you are referring to the Iranian one barsel.

Here's the Saudi Bedouin.... http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zTKKTFeCZO0/TymcNi6AriI/AAAAAAAAJZg/_j0Rc33sTLM/s400/saudi_woman_6.jpg

or the Omani, http://41.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lsj3lhwxHo1qaplflo1_1280.jpg
Thanks for explaining that to me hc. x
I am just thankful that I live in a country where people can wear what they want.
... except those who are forced by their menfolk to hide themselves from the world for life.
naomi, that isn't the country's laws though and hopefully things are improving for those women in Britain bit by bit.
