A better question would be "Why do some people (left or right) resort to online abuse?".
It happens on Twitter and FB and on here, and almost as often about things that the average person would consider non-controversial, as otherwise.

There are certain people on here that I picture as lonely losers sitting in the bedrooms, surrounded by bags of junk food, whose only opportunity to feel big and important is when they are posting aggressively on AB.
nothing particularly anti-democratic about rude tweets any more than there is about rude posts on AB, as TheChair points out. A lot of it just seems to be Labour MPs trying to find excuses to whinge about Corbyn.
They're thick as mince and yet totally convinced of their
m̶o̶r̶a̶l̶ superiority. (but then, I suspect you knew that)

not talking about the tweets being anti democratic, it's their attitude that they are only happy with a democratically arrived at decision as long as they agree with it.
A local group I work with had an interesting experience of this. We organised a speaker to give a public talk about the technology, dangers and non-dangers of fracking.
The group is normally older people around retirement age, from all walks of life, often but not exclusively with a trades union background.
The talk was effectively 'boarded by rainbow warriors' who would not allow the speaker to talk and who also shouted down anyone else who didn't say, yes of course, yours is the only possible correct view.
I have to agree with TTT that the redder end of the left has as poor a track record for reasoned debate as the extreme right.
"All" politicians are undemocratic: that's why the system elects an elite to make the decisions and impose them on the rest of us regardless whether the majority of the citizens agree.
But, for example, Mr Corbyn was elected by the entire Labour membership (they even let YOU vote for him by the sound of it)

This sort of question is too broad-brush to be meaningful

Anti war left, Proven terrorist sympathisers
Tambo, that's as helpful and valid as saying extreme right, proven child slayers and torturers.
Only air strikes were voted on and so far its been the oil wells that financed daish

It's actually a theory of political science - the difference between extreme views is only narrow, or indeed nonexistent. The continuum between the left and the right is horse-shoe shaped, not a straight line.
that's always been my thinking, Mosaic: Hitler and Stalin pretty much met in the middle.

Readuing AB posts suggests to me everyone is happy with democratic decisions until they disagree with them.
One isn't supposed to be happy with (democratic) decisions one disagrees with. But to accept that they stand until further debate changes the majority view.
