Ok far from a health food but how can a bacon butty be as bad as smoking? Unless they are talking about 20 a day!

smoked bacon?
Janbee beat me to it.....
They're recommending we have a bean salad instead of a bacon buttie for lunch. Who has a bacon buttie every day for lunch? And have these experts checked the beans for carcinogens yet?
This report has been twisted out of all proportion TTT.

As I recall from yesterday, the report says that eating meat could increase your chances of getting colorectal cancer by 18%.

But the vast majority of people in Britain develop these cancers anyway !
Cloverjo....just think of the wind !
Quite Mikey and the consequent greenhouse effect must be more harmful?
This report is going to upset a friend who decided to cut down on smoking by having a cigarette after each meal. The last time we spoke he said he's down to twenty meals a day.
Exactly Mikey. We are living longer. We are going to get cancers. If the cancer charities get their wishes and no one dies of cancer, we're going to end our days lingering with dementia. No thanks.
I don't live unhealthily. I don't smoke or overeat. I drink a bit, but not colossal amounts. I'll take my chances with the occasional sausage or bit of bacon.
Me too Clover !........in fact I am just off to the shops and I think I shall buy some nice smoked streaky bacon and a Hovis loaf !
Sounds lovely, Mikey! I'm almost tempted myself.
Perhaps with some sliced tomato as well ?

( and HP sauce ! )

according to Clarkson, the Bacon Sarnie is the only known cure for vegetarianism!.
TTT, yes, that cured my son of the affliction! :)
Vegetarianism...the fad that enthuses but rarely persuades !
mikey I think you mean the vast majority of people DON'T get colorectal cancer
I can't be bothered reading the link as I can only imagine the hype therein
However I do think that the finding is that these food items are now assessed as definite causes of cancer and therefore join a list of other known cancer causes such as radiation and cigarette smoke
But it does not claim that they are equally dangerous
That's the thing about life, in the end it's gonna kill ya!
The link is not working for me now, so I can't check what I read earlier, but I think it said that you are 18% more likely to get colon or rectal cancer if you eat 50g of sausage or bacon a day. The figure is meaningless without more data. Say you have a thousand people who never eat sausage or bacon, and one of them gets the cancer. That means that 1.18 people out of a thousand who do eat the stuff gets the cancer. No reason to give it up, if that's what you like. Can the DM please stop scaring people without more facts to back it up?
I answered on the other thread about this , I doubt I will alter my eating
habits. Most of these findings aren't really new though.

If you want to read the detailed report there are some details here that explain when and where it will be available.

It was not the DM, it was widely reported that WHO had said it.
