Parent in this case is doing right by trying to get his habit stopped, but the school have to uphold their rules or there would be chaos.

She has been silly to go so public with it, as often happens.
It's sad isn't it when a parent makes such a fuss and slates the school and its staff. I think they should be asked to leave the school on the basis that the relationship isn't right for her and her son unless he apologises and goes in the paper again to say she was wrong

Most schools have rules which should be followed. If parents don't like these rules or don't agree with them, they have the choice to remove their children. 15 minutes of fame springs to mind.

Do the parents have to sign a form or whatever "I have read the schools rules and regs and agree to abide by them"...or something along those lines...

Let's hope they take up the school's offer to help him with this.
There was a survey on AB a while back and every smoker said they started at age 12 to 15. Which is why I think trying to stop smoking in adults is a lost cause most of the time better to stop kids from starting.

Perhaps that should be a concern too!
The school is right, they are there to teach.
