A cheese and onion pasty makes life a lot easier
School meals always have options. All that is necessary is that one of these should be vegetarian and there is usually a veggie choice anyway. No, the mayor is wrong to argue that minorities should force majorities to change their ways. I'm still furious that all meat in Bradford schools is halal and we had to pay for it on our rates even if we hated the practice - it also meant I had to opt for the veggie option if I ate in school.
I would have thought that "...[making] vegetarian menus obligatory in all canteens as an alternative to daily menus" means that there must always be a vegetarian option rather than a vegetarian-only menu? Not how the express is reporting it but that's how I read it. And who can argue with there always being the option?

If it's compulsory then I'm against it, in the same way that I would be against Muslim or Jewish people being obliged to eat pork or starve. But I rarely had school meals anyway, being given a packed lunch most days.

Jourdain - Firstly I did not know you lived in Bradford
Secondly - you would be worried if you saw where some of your council tax was going

///Can we force a Catholic child to eat meat on Good Friday because nothing else is offered, or a Jew or a Muslim child to eat pork?///

But we can apparently force A European Child into a change of diet to fit in with the New Arrivals!

Look a veggie diet is healthier and cheaper (not cheap enough for some prisoners if you want mho but that's another post)
If it can't be halah no one can complain when it isn't
Ric.ror - I used to live in Bradford. I was born in Baildon (too many years ago to reveal) and lived around Bradford and Halifax all my life until 2001 when I decamped to France. I'd been teaching the last 15 years at Rhodesway. Moved to the East Riding this Spring - nothing would have persuaded me to go back to anywhere near Bradford. It's my home town and I did love it, it was a good place to grow up. My sister still lives at Baildon and drives all around Bradford to get to work in Calderdale, they have nothing to do with the place. Unfortunately, they can't move for various reasons.

I knew far too much about where my council tax went, it's probably worse now. You are out Calverly way, aren't you?:(
I can't see any problem in providing a vegetarian meal as an alternative, and for TTT ,many non Asians are vegetarians.
