Naomi - "Indeed, which makes me think of those ladies who insist upon shrouding themselves beneath the uniform of radical Islam – the burka. One can be forgiven for suspecting the motive behind both."

Maybe its as simple as personal choice - does there have to be a 'motive'?
andy-hughes, //I think there is some historcial evidence to back up my belief that most Muslims are not radical - that is a belief based on society's evidence around me.//

Society’s evidence ‘around’ you by your own admission amounts to you knowing one Muslim personally and knowing nothing about Islam. Most Muslims might not be actively ‘radical’ – but you don’t know what they’re thinking. Never forget that lying to the ‘kaffir’ is another privilege that Islam extends to the faithful.
andy-hughes, //Maybe its as simple as personal choice - does there have to be a 'motive'? //

No, there doesn't have to be a motive - but I suspect in most cases there is.
Andy...without going round the houses and the mosque, *if * these people refused the food because of the red cross on the box or because it was not halal would you agree that this makes them at best 'idiots'?

Give me a rational reason for refusing these parcels!
Naomi - " Most Muslims might not be actively ‘radical’ – but you don’t know what they’re thinking."

Perfectly true, but I don't know that about Christians either, or Sikhs, or Buddhists - heck my neighbour is a Buddhist .... Oh God, they're coming for me .......!!!!!!

Nah - paranoia doesn't suit me!
Talbot - "Andy...without going round the houses and the mosque, *if * these people refused the food because of the red cross on the box or because it was not halal would you agree that this makes them at best 'idiots'?"

No - I would suggest that the former makes their choice unwise, and the second choice makes the strick adherents of their faith.

"Give me a rational reason for refusing these parcels!"

I can't! I don't know what is going on here - which makes me the same as virtually every other poster today doesn't it.
Maybe its as simple as personal choice

And yet no other women other than Muslims choose to wear the Burqa
Ric.roar - "And yet no other women other than Muslims choose to wear the Burqa

And Muslim women choose not to wear mini-skirts!

It is entirely about cultural identity - why would a woman wear a traditional Muslim garment if she is not a Muslim?
Given that the Macedonian authorities have treated them pretty appallingly for the last few weeks, it's maybe not surprising that a bit of hostility has arisen.
Proof perhaps that closing borders is not really the solution.
andy-hughes, don't worry, the Buddhists aren't the people creating mayhem in the world.

//It [the burka] is entirely about cultural identity//

No - it isn't.
"Years" are ears but in Welsh.

You often hear them say "Come over by yere" (or something like that) meaning "Come here". Similarly they say "I'm going to get a yearing aid because I've got trouble with my years".
Getting back to the POST,

If they didn't want the food parcels, its their decision but unfortunately the children & babies don't have a choice!
trt
In the Muslim world children and babies have no choice. They are used as cannon fodder and human shields. That,it would seem, are their only worth until they are old enough to wield a Klashnikov or a suicide vest.
trt - "If they didn't want the food parcels, its their decision but unfortunately the children & babies don't have a choice!"

That's a by-product of fundamentalism - and tragically, it's only one of many, which visit suffering on innocent children.
So it's not Glastonbury then?
Question Author
Off topic. But talking of Welsh ears.
Two miners, Dai & Yanto are at the colliery doctor's after a bit of compo for their impaired hearing.
Dai goes in and passes all the tests. As he approaches the exit door the doctor whispers quietly, 'Send the next man in, would you?'
'Aye, no problem' says Dai.
'Aha' shouts the doctor, 'There's obviously nothing wrong with your hearing, you malingerer' and promptly rips poor old Dai's compo form up.
Tears in his eyes, Dai says to Yanto, 'Whatever you do, don't say you'll send the next man in when he asks you'
Yanto passes all the tests and as he approaches the door, the doctor, again, whispers, ' Send the next man in'
'Not flaming likely' snaps Yanto 'get him your flipping self '.

(It sounds better with proper swear words,,,,and, maybe, a few pints in you.)
I just heard that it's not "the cross "or "not halal "that they are protesting about, it's because they were attacked by the police the night before with stun grenades and tear gas
Blimey! If that's true you'd have thought they'd have kept quiet in order to avoid a repetition!
I suppose the refugees were acquainted with the saying,"Beware of Greeks bearing gifts".
Shame. The police were probably saying sorry for last night's misunderstanding.
"because they were attacked by the police the night before with stun grenades and tear gas "

and rightly so, as they were trying to break through the barriers etc...
