Is there anything I can do extend my rings so that I can get to the phone on time. At the moment I think my phone only rings 3 times when the voice message comes on - doesn't give me time to hardly get off the settee and of course I don't hear the voicemail properly. I think it is another one from the surgery but worded differently Thanks for any answers - maybe 7-8 rings would help. Thanks

you need to give people the make and model of the phone in order for them to help you
Wish I could help Jenny, but mine's the same....I'm with Virgin, and their answering service comes on after 7 rings....not really enough time for me.

i am with bt
Have you tried dialling 1471 to ascertain if it is the same number that called from the surgery yesterday?

Next - the model and make of the actual telephone would help to see if you can alter the settings.

Mamy - you wouldn't believe that there are 3 or 4 surgeries that have different numbers - and also they have their "own mobile numbers between the surgeries" - I am truly sick to death having my neighbours having to listen to my call - after the call I immediately immediately call back and I get these option business. I think they are opened this afternoon - may crack on in the car and see what it is about. Will give you an update.
on your phone select MENU and ANSWERPH0NE will be displayed
click SELECT then press the middle button until SETTINGS is displayed
when answer and record comes up select this and it will show ANSWER DELAY
using the back or forward on the middle button you can increase or decrease the number of rings -maximum 9

well Mamy - got down to the surgery - and I have to see the "pharmacy" in another Surgery in City Centre to discuss my medication - in fact she mentioned certain medication. However, she said he was a nice man so hopefully that will go well. I never there was pharmacy in surgeries - you learn every day and by God i do.
Question Author
^^^ knew
Oh that sounds encouraging - make some notes about your main concerns re your meds and hopefully the result will be good.

Yes - a lot of the larger surgeries have pharmacies attached now.

Let us know how you get on.
If its a house phone can you not turn the answerphone off as it takes longer to trip over if its off. I only ask because when our answer machine is on it trips after 3 rings if its off it will ring a little longer before going to answer machine?

Well I have calmed down a bit from that ruckus. That truly upset me.
We should not revisit things that have been removed, but maybe a clear lesson in making sure what we post is accurate before submitting.

queen of mean - that would be too complicated for all that - you see when my phone rings I also have a flashing light to alert me to the phone even that only flashes 3 or 4 times.
No problem jennyjoan :) hope you something sorted out though
Question Author
Well qom and mamy - done a bit of research and unfortunately because I have 1571 for the voicemail - the rings cannot be changed. They can only be changed if I wanted to go for a separate answerphone which I won't be bothered. But yep 1571 is the problem. It is a problem for a lot of elderly people who still have the landline and find it difficult getting up to answer quickly. So that's your answer guys. I will have to live with it. Get the neighbours over to find out all the naughty things I get up to. LOL
you don't have to live with it - just turn 1571 off whiile you are in hte house and on when you go out
Can you turn it on and off? I thought you could only remove it from your package by contacting BT?
