Fantastic idea. However it's sensible that prior to it being made permanent, every check should be made to ensure dementia suffers are not adversely affected.

The same style crossing was in place for Pride last year, and I noticed at the time, loads of people taking photos and selfies on it.

Seemed like a jolly bit of fun.

I think it was inevitable that we would get our first one, but am surprised that Manchester, Soho and Brighton were beaten to the punch.

Also - the colours are completely wrong!

I think it was inevitable because the UK is so far ahead in the world when it comes to acceptance and inclusiveness of gay people (admittedly, Holland and some of the Nordic countries are also up there).

And I think it's a fantastic idea because we have thousands of priests, imams and vicars telling us about the evils of homosexuality and the whole burning in the pits of hell thing...if we can tolerate that, then a little symbol that indicates support is a nice thing to have surely?

Don't see what the big deal is - if you support religious fundamentalists preaching against gay people in shopping centre, then why would you have an issue with a symbol of support?

Wasn't it a gay group who put it there? So gays supporting themselves is sufficient to put up a meaningless scrappy paint job on a public highway.It has no significance as a crossing point and the majority shouldn't have to see what is criminal damage displayed on the road by a minority that is proud to be gay.The majority don't give a toss about your pride and are happy to remain straight without proclaiming it.

To have a road crossing supporting some folks' sexual disability seems as though it could/should be an April Fool gag; but life experience has shown this is just typical of the sort of insanity folk with power try to impose; presumably for their own amusement. They say power corrupts. I think it just gives individuals' existing corruption and mental issues freer rein.

As I have said, to me it looks awful. Furthermore a crossing is a thing of safety, the last that's needed is another Abbey Road crossing full of idiots taking pictures and not caring about the traffic.

We were on holiday in Totnes last year. We walked up the High Street and just in front of this church where the crossing was planned was a young girl dancing with bells and hula hoops for money It made me think of the song Gypsies Tramps and thieves. A chap who I assumed was her partner and a young child were sat behind the church wall. She seemed so young and vulnerable and it made me feel quite uneasy. We put some money in her hat but what made me feel even more uncomfortable were the men who passed on the other side of the road visibly leching.

Sorry aog know this has nothing to do with your post but the picture just reminded me she was stood just off the top right hand corner of the crossing.

Static colours shouldn't affect those with that condition.
