I do often think that she's just controversial as it sells, they may not necessary be so vehemently thought by her.

If she increases the readership of the paper she writes for then yes, she's a good columnist in the eyes of the newspaper's owners and shareholders. I think the question you meant,to,ask was ' do you like her style of writing'.
