Everyone on the world can watch the BBC free. My daughter in Australia and expats around Europe. Yet only the people who live here have to pay this extortionist charge to watch this leftie drivel. What do ABers think? Scrap the licence fee. Scrap the BBC.
Should all tax-payers, including those without televisions, contribute to a new levy.
I can live without the BBC ..

And me, murray. Eco-loons, Islamists and Left-wing people in general would probably beg to differ. Maybe even some 'normal' people. We shall see.
^^^^^ what's the connection between those people and the BBC?

You've obviously never watched it, madeup. Take my advice, don't.
I quite like the quality and accessibility of the BBC news, and I watch the occasional programme on BBC2, but I wouldn't pay a subscription to do so. Neither do I beleive in the continuation or expansion of a blanket tax. The result therefor is to let it go unless anyone comes up with another idea.
Come to think of it I take back the word quality! Its the accessibility of news that I find handy, but I do get snippets and headlines on the internet.

But I quite like the radio.

How about a 'slimmed-down' version? More like a Public-Service Broadcaster.
The BBC has a gazillion faults but I still prefer it to Murdoch TV. I just wish the Beeb would report UNbiased views on things.... just once !
....and whats the funding model?
if the bbc stop giving plonkers like jonathan ross 6 million a year they might get a bit more support from the public
In case you had not noticed, Jonathan Ross left the BBC in 2010. His TV show is now no longer on BBC.
^ ^ ^ i did say 'plonkers like jonathan ross'

The BBC: one of the few things that makes us renowned abroad. Uniquely funded which means it must be publicly accountable and independent And actually unbiased to the point of farce. Also much cheaper than alternative subscription options.
So it always amazes me that a certain strand of allegedly patriotic right winger, especially the sort who bangs on all the time about our 'loss of sovereignty' within organisations like the EU, would see it done away with in favour of God knows what
I suspect that they do not actually speak for most people
What is anachronistic is the TV Licence. If a way can be found to replace that while maintaining the funding principle then hat would be ideal
The BBC s good reputation goes around the world and we should be proud of it.

They make a constant stream of excellent programs, in all styles and formats.

Their web site is fantastic and full of useful information, I look at it every day.

However I think the license fee IS unsustainable (rather like the radio license was when everyone started buying small transistor radios and putting radios in their cars).

But I would hate to see the BBC go as a huge percentage of my TV watching is BBC programs.
All the lefties love labours mouthpiece and true they do come up with a few good documentaries and drama's. The news I often find very biased.

It is wrong and very outdated to force people to pay for something, the BBC all along have tried to suppress competition using tax payers money (yes the licence fee is essentially a tax).

If people want the BBC then fine, they should pay for it in its entirety, but for those that dont wish to view it they should not have to contribute a penny.

VHG, so you watch a lot of it, I dont watch any of it.

Can you tell me why I have to pay for your entertainment when you dont contribute to my virgin fees?
It's worth the licence fee (not that I pay it :0) for 'Wolf Hall' alone. The most squalid channel of all has got to be the homophile commercial, Channel 4, with its reprehensible attacks against UKIP and the last winter Olympics etc.

Their bias is one of the main reasons it should change. I see Rona Fairhead, head of the BBC Trust has been lambasted by MPs yesterday about the BBC squandering hundreds of millions of pounds, handed out huge payoff to sacked staff, covered up sex abuse......I could go on.

Ichi, It's not just 'certain right-wingers' questioning the future of the BBC. This committee are publishing their report today but I couldn't find a current link to it.
