Mmmm.
Some people have terrible lives, don't they?
For goodness' sake - are you all so unaware? I, personally, know of one elderly, white couple and one black lady effectively forced out of their homes by their asian neighbours who had taken over the neighbourhood and wanted their houses and them out. The first was the lovely, unhappy and confused black lady (I taught her at night-school) and that was in the early 1990's. The other poor couple (I knew them fairly well) had bought their house in the 1950's and loved being there (Manningham, Bradford). Their late years were ruined and their kids moved them out in the early 2000's when their lives had become impossible. It's too much to go into now, sorry.
Thanks Talbot. Wouldn't have known about this unless you posted.

Of course the headline news is 'Black man forced to catch next train by a few idiots'
.

Jordie - we may be more aware than you think
There are these things called videos and I think I would have installed one after the first note. ... and leaving notes. about 50% low estimate of people in my part of Manchester cant write. [ I do it for them a lot of the time ] - and so it is always verbal where I am.
Jeez, they must be desperate.
The answer here is to set up CCTV cameras (funded by the council), catch whoever is doing this, and revoke their tenancy agreement. It's them who should lose their flat, not this young family. And no-one should live in fear. Disgraceful.

Booldawg - am waiting for 'certain people' to claim that she did it herself.
Totally agree, sp. You would have thought they'd have done it considering something like this has happened before.

There will be a 'light touch' investigation so community feelings are not inflamed.
This may well be a cultural issue, a mere misunderstanding of how things are done in the old country. Such historic behaviour must be respected to preserve the ancient ways doncha know.

Whatever guff is forthcoming the truth is that the white family lost because authorities fear to tread on the delicate sensibilitiesthe put-upon black residents.
I don't think authorities are afraid to tread on anyones shoes. Just look at the stop and search policy.
ummm - stop & search is police policy. They are rooted in the bad old times, and must be made more culturally sensitive, like the local authorities.

This white family is causing racial tension, and must be moved, or preferably locked up so they can't cause this kind of provocation somewhere else.

Where's anyoldgit when you need him?

You may well think that, but I strongly suspect that part, if not all of that...is cobblers.
I know but the police are still an authority and will be called for harassment, criminal damage, racism etc.
What a horrible thing to have happened. I wish the family well.

However, in terms of this story being placed on AB, I am now awaiting posters criticising Miss Sunter for her inability to 'grow a pair'....'suck it up'.....or for going to the papers.
Well...to be honest......I wouldn't rent or buy a property in a "predominantly black area"........would you?
If you're a council/housing authority tenant you often don't have a choice.
I have missed this OP, so am a little late to the debate.

It has been proffered on another thread that this thread is being ignored because the racists are black.

I would absolutely disagree that there is a sense of indifference, or worse, covert support for racists of any colour here on the AB, and I am happy to register my disgust at the treatment of this lady and her family.

I do think the council should have offered more timely support, but I seriously doubt that is based on over-sensitivity towards one ethnic group - it is more likely an across-the-board absence of funds that is to blame.
"Well...to be honest......I wouldn't rent or buy a property in a "predominantly black area"........would you?"

exactly...but that exactly what they would like....because they would be happier surrounded by their own type...same with the asians etc.....one by one white familys move...more asians move in, and thats how they take over whole areas, towns etc
baz......you are quite correct, but MY family are priority and what happens to the "black " communities is of secondary importance both in the short term and the long term.
bazwillrun - "....because they would be happier surrounded by their own type..."

Perhaps your viewpoint could have been a little more appropriately expressed, but your point is valid.

But you cannot blame expats of any nationality in any country from seeking the comfort of familiarity by seeking out others of the same race - there is a massive ex-pat British community in Spain, plenty of whom refuse to learn the language and integrate with the local population - but that is simply human nature rather than some deeply ingrained racial mistrust and desire to build a ghetto.
