/// 'Were you in The Parade (in Oadby) this morning? Did you see anyone matching his description or do you have information about the incident? ///

Man/woman dressed in a Burka in Leicester, it will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Gromit, you are the first to imply racism. That’s not good. This is a discussion about one section of society, the members of which are completely unidentifiable – regardless of how many CCTV cameras are in use. //It is snowing outside, would covering my face with a scarf be illegal? I see plenty of people wearing Parka coats that obscure the face, again no...

Wow, even more out of date proof...
So you think things have changed, you know it hasnt!!

I have yet to read of a valid reason for the wearing of a burka.

Can those in favour address the issue that I have asked before on AB and Prudie has put forward on this thread..............Why should men as individuals be allowed to dictate what a woman wears but society as a whole can not?
and dont even get me started on the genital mutilations of these poor young girls.

Filthy disgusting parasites that perform this, allow it to be performed and anybody that agrees it is acceptable!!
hc4361, // I do not want to live in a country that dictates what people can wear.//

Just as well you don’t live in a country that dictates what people MUST wear then – because that’s where all the Saudi women here who live their lives in obscurity got the idea from. Are you sure you know what you’re really defending?
mikey4444.......'I seem to recall Burks are banned in France'

I always thought it was full of them :-)
Should we ban the burka - YES!! But we won't, sadly.
The dictatorial husband/family/religion is very different from the law of the land telling me what I can and can't wear.

Don't think we can ban it but the rules should be fair, I can't go into a shop with a bike helmet on for security reasons, why should others not have to display their faces as well... minor point but important to me.... fair society???
hc...People 'women' died in this country fighting for equality but you are happy to let a certain section of society ignore 'equality'?
How much more secure would this make the UK?, it might have forced 1 bank robber to adopt a different disguise, maybe buy a balaclava, is it worth sacrificing some liberty for?, once it is gone it does not return.
RandyMarsh , //is it worth sacrificing some liberty for?//

Whose liberty is really being sacrificed at the hands of the defenders? Certainly the liberty of the women who have come to live in a western society, and yet, because of the dictates of their home culture and the men in their lives, are not free to integrate wholly into the society they now find themselves in. I’ll ask you the same question I asked hc4361 – are you sure you know what you’re really defending? You and the people who think like you are doing those women no favours whatsoever – but you’re a big help to their backward and domineering fathers and husbands.

You could say that about terrorism per-se, should we sacrifice the liberty of some now, just because no terrorist incidents are taking place at the moment?

What is now stopping a group of terrorists to use the disguise of the burka to commit an atrocity, would then be the right time to ban this potential disguise?

Seems like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.
Slapshot maybe you should take it up with the shop that disallows you wearing a bike helmet because plainly if they have a rule about that but nothing else then that is indeed unfair. And rather pointless.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, In Scotland, it is legal under the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995 Section 49 5(c) to wear a sgian-dubh or other weapon, as part of any national costume.

In England and Wales, it is legal under the Criminal Justice Act 1988 section 139 and the Offensive Weapons Act 1996 section 4 for someone wearing the national costume of Scotland to carry a sgian-dubh

Do you mean to say you have never seen signs in Building Society's, Bank's, Post Office's and Shop Windows, stating "NO CRASH HELMETS. or "PLEASE REMOVE YOUR CRASH HELMETS"?

Once again it seems one law for one and another law for others.
Ichkeria.... it's everywhere can't believe you've never seen, is it pointless, trivial maybe but the point stands if I can't walk into a bank or post office or corner shop withoit taking my full face helmet off for security reasons why should people be wllowed in wearing a burka???
