// Al-Qaeda is planning a Paris-style terrorist atrocity against Britain, according to the head of MI5.

They include plans to blow up a passenger jet; Mumbai-style shootings in crowded places; or even hit-and-run attacks using vehicles.

MI5 officers have increased surveillance of British fanatics who they fear may launch copycat attacks. Intelligence has shown that the Syrian arm of a resurgent al-Qaeda is planning similar outrages against the UK, possibly by British jihadists who have already returned from fighting in Syria or Iraq. //

And it TalkTalk and Plusnet's fault

// It is feared that a lack of cooperation from internet companies means that there is a risk of terrorists slipping through the net because MI5 cannot track them.
Mr Parker warned that terrorists may soon be able “to operate beyond our reach” as he renewed calls for enhanced access to digital communications. //

Who are you quoting, someone from down the pub?
Scary stuff, scary times.

Question Author
Andrew Parker, the Director General of MI5.
Did you get the snippet from 'This Week' Gromit?

If so what did you think to Diane Abbot?
Question Author
Talbot,
No, it is out of the Daily Telegraph.

I didn't see This Week, but I would guess my thoughts on Diane Abbott would be the same as they have always been, that she is a stupid waste of space.
The security services would love to have access to everything anybody says at any time about anything on any medium, and they'll use people's fear of terrorism to try and get it.

Ludwig,
Are you saying the head of MI5 is trying to scare us?
Isn't that doing the terrorists work for them?
Very harsh mastercraft.
Diane Abbott

I don’t see Private Eye every week but I suspect they’re as offensive to Muslims as everyone else

Pity you can't give yourself best answer, that's bang on the money!
Why, Mastercraft? Did anyone deserve to be there?
// Are you saying the head of MI5 is trying to scare us? //

Yes, I think he is.

// Isn't that doing the terrorists work for them? //

I wouldn't say so. I don't think the terrorists are particularly interested in scaring us, despite their name. I think they just want to kill people.

I have to disagree.
Fair enough. What do you think then - why did you quote him? It's not clear what point you wanted to make.
ludwig - "... I don't think the terrorists are particularly interested in scaring us, despite their name. I think they just want to kill people..."

I respectfully disagree. I think that they [terrorists] do want to scare people. They want to do so in order to curtail freedom of speech; specifically they want to prevent criticism of Islam. By frightening the general populous and the media into never criticising Islam through fear, they win a huge propaganda war. It makes the gradual implementation of Islamic laws and the creeping Islamification of the west that much easier if everyone is too scared to speak out against them.

I do agree that some of them genuinely enjoy the "thrill" of murder. Unfortunately, some non-muslims also share this particularly vile character trait. However, I think that "fear" is the real goal here.
I did not say 'deserve', I said 'should'.
So that's like saying the she should be shot.
