There can be no argument on this killing.............can there?

Sergeant Brian Schellman, from St Louis County Police, said a police officer was conducting a routine business check at around 11.15pm when he saw two men and approached them.

He said one of the men pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officer.

Sgt Schellman said: "Fearing for his life, the Berkeley Officer fired several shots, striking the subject, fatally wounding him."
It's probably just me but I don't believe that story.

A teen pulls a gun on a police officer but the officer managed to kill the teen without the teen shooting. Doesn't sound right. It sounds like it's written to justify why yet another black kid has been shot.

At a petrol station so surely there will be some CCTV?

You'd like to think so.
This year 46 Policemen were shot dead last year 52,000 were assaulted.

When a US Policeman deals with any incident he knows one mistake could mean he never makes it to retirement.

With this in mind, what would you do if someone armed was coming towards you ummm?

Maybe we need to wait for full facts before jumping to any conclusion one way or another?
I'm sure the gun belonging to the 'teen' aka potential armed assailant will be found and may even be found to be faulty or even unloaded.
In any event, don't point a gun at an armed policeman or you're going to get hurt.

Well his mum says he was a good boy trying to turn his life around. You do of course need to carry a gun to turn your life around.

America really does need to get carrying handguns made illegal, the short term aggravation has got to be worth it in the long term.
I would shoot them, YMB. I'm just not sure I believe the report.

If I had a gun pointing at someone and I saw that they were going for their gun, I'd shoot them, I wouldn't just stand there and let them get their gun out and shoot me.

Obviously that kind of scenario would never happen in my life.
ummmm

/// It's probably just me but I don't believe that story. ///

/// A teen pulls a gun on a police officer but the officer managed to kill the teen without the teen shooting. Doesn't sound right. It sounds like it's written to justify why yet another black kid has been shot. ///

Would it had been more acceptable to you if the teenager had shot the officer first?

" It sounds like it's written to justify why yet another black kid has been shot"

priceless.....hahahahhahaha

dont pull a gun on a cop in the USA...seems pretty simple.......

"" It sounds like it's written to justify why yet another black kid has been shot"

sounds like another excuse for blacks to go on an xmas riot...just sayin' !
He fired several shots? why? Do the US police not have the same level of training that U.K and Swiss police have?

Maybe he should look at retiring now because it seems his judgement might have been flawed.

Like Ummmm said, you would of thought that the 'criminal' would have at least discharged his weapon unless as douglas9401 has mentioned, it was either unloaded, fake or had a feed issue. Either way if that was the case you would of assumed the kid would of dropped the firearm and give himself up. It seems like the officer just panicked and discharged his firearm several time irresponsibly.
They obviously so upset about this shooting so much so that they didn't miss the opportunity to try a bit of looting in the meantime.

/// A number of people were arrested and there were also reports of people trying to break into local businesses. ///
I would love to see some of these apologists confronted by a person pointing a gun at them with they themselves being armed?

"Shoot only when you see the whites of their eyes", only happens in films I don't think they would be counting the number of bullets that they fired either.
"He fired several shots? "

and you really cant work out why ?....

he had a gun and if he was only injured he could still use it...the idea is to make it Game Over !...even so , it sounds like he does need more accuracy training...the aggressor lived for 30 mins to two hours according to reports
Does seem to be habit forming

///He said one of the men pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officer.
Detectives said they recovered the dead man's weapon at the scene.///

Regards the Officer shooting first, if you've never shot at a person before you may hesitate, thinking the threat would be enough, if you've been trained to use firearms, given those circumstances, you won't hesitate.
anotheoldgit: The way I was trained was to discharge, then assess before proceeding to discharge again. This can be done in milliseconds by a well trained officer. If he was in fact doing his job correctly then it must mean that the teen was still in possession of the firearm and was still aiming it at the officer or other bystanders.

Either way it's once again, a tragic loss of life.
"They obviously so upset about this shooting so much so that they didn't miss the opportunity to try a bit of looting in the meantime. "

any old excuse and off they go...

mind you to be fair i cant see any reports of looting or rioting over the two cops that were murdered in their car ...strange that...maybe i just havent scoured the press closely enough..
bazwillrun: Hmmm I'll stand down. I really didn't read the article properly.

My bad.
"Either way it's once again, a tragic loss of life"

loss of life yes...tragic ?...armed civilian on streets...id say lucky for others on the streets....he can no longer be a threat to all other civilised law abiding people walking the streets in any way
@dizmo

the two murdered cops was another incident a day ago...but oddly doesnt seem to have gotten the same amount of coverage....i wonder why ?
