Oh dear four such incidents in the past few weeks, I wonder if these cash machines will soon become a thing of the past?

Years ago we had Cigarette machines, Chocolate Machines, Gum machines, Stamp machines and Paraffin machines, and no body thought of ripping them from their positions.

Is that what they mean by a Self Service Till?
You forgot to say that they were closed for one hour every lunch time hc 4361.

Perhaps only in Scotland though.
A favourite trick for us kids was to go round all the local telephone boxes and shove toilet paper up the return coin chute so if someone pressed button B the money would not drop. The next morning go round and remove it. Normally got a few pennies, not that I did that; often.
I'm fairly certain cigarette machines were regularly vandalised and stolen from. The machine outside the off-license disappeared one night, never to be replaced.

Soon we will not need cards or xash, we will pay via our phones.
The best I ever heard was when two guys, dressed in overalls, walked into my local pub, knowing that it was the manager's day off. In front of customers they said to the barmaid, "Just come to replace the bandit, love".

They then loaded it onto a barrow and departed, never to be seen again, and no one was any the wiser till the next day.
Yes, the banks were closed for an hour at lunch.

I remember seeing telephone boxes vandalised for the coins; vending machines, too.

I've heard that story before, blackadder, but that time the 'repairmen' took the tv from the wall
I remember Mum walking about a mile on a Sunday morning, to fill up her jerry can with paraffin, from the machine outside the Ironmongers.
I also remember that aroma of paraffin stoves, if I ever smell them nowadays it takes me right to the 50's and 60. Still associate it with feeling warm and secure.
boom boom boom, Esso Blue!
Those thieves were just amateurs!

Another post from AOG where he doesn't have the courtesy to join in. Or is it just that he can't justify his OP?
The outdoors ones will , I think, eventually be a thing of the past.

/// In the days before central heating became widespread a lot of people had paraffin heaters in their homes. The coal fire only heated the living room. Google Esso Blue and Esso Pink. ///

I think you will find it was called Aladdin Pink.

Why do you have to be so personally aggressive all the time?

I don't spend 24/7 on here, and if cared to notice I join in most of my Threads profusely.
These machines need to contain a device that stains or destroys all the money if the machine is disturbed, not rocket science surely!!!
We still use a parrafin heater and Tilly lamps for our summer house, we burn citronella oil in the Tilly lamps, great for keeping the bugs away.

That's no way to talk about your relatives. :0)
On a tangent, but surely the easy answer to cash machine being stolen is to fit them with dye sprays as cash boxes are. If the machine is removed from its base the dye spray goes off and makes all the cash useless as well as releasing a dye cloud that colours the thieves with indelible purple dye.
