Why is everyone on tv wearing poppies so early? I thought the celebrations weren't until next month. Has some sort of government directive been issued to the media execs?

I'm wearing one.
People at work are wearing them too.Personally I think it's too early and somewhat waters it down by spreading it out but suppose it's no big deal.
"Celebrations"? Not what i would call the Remembrance Day activities.
The Royal British Legion states that it is acceptable to wear one from the date of the launch of the appeal, this year 22nd October.
The BBC said poppies should be worn by their tv presenters from the 24th October.
For me, they should be worn on the 11th of November, no matter what the "poppy police" say.

"poppy police"...was it them that banned the white poppy?
The white poppy isn't banned
War Horse used to be a brand of pipe tobacco which came in a solid block and had to be cut with a knife. It was strong!
I've never seen a White poppy seller.
They would of been known as conchies during the two World Wars.
Ah, thanks retrocop. Didn't they have to go down the coal mines during WW2.

White poppy sellers get abused and threatened with violence on the street, that's why I have to send away for mine, it arrives in a plain brown envelope to avoid the death threats.
I'm wearing one too. The British Legion needs every penny it can get to carry on doing the excellent work they do for disabled ex-service personnel. they get on government funding.
That should, of course, be No government funding.

Does the Royal Family not support the British Legion, or do they just show up every year waving their medals?
"White poppy sellers get abused and threatened with violence on the street"

Really??
not up your way, B00, it's peaceful there, but down in Westminster...
Question Author
Yes B00, really...I have the scars to show for it. I never fought back as I'm a peace lover.
Course you have ;-)
If you are a seller, why not just use one of the ones you sell?
