Opinion polls consistently show a majority in favour of staying in the EU, though the margin is usually closer.
On the face of it it seems odd, given the fuss about the EU that is consistently made by so many, apparently (especially here)
I suspect it tells us that if you canvass a representative section of the electorate - which presumably they do, as opposed merely to Daily Mail journalists, residents of Clacton etc etc, that you get a different perspective.
It should be a warning to Cameron and the Conservatives that their current pandering to UKIP may in the long term be disastrous for them, as they risk losing their appeal to some of those mainstream voters who are not, as it happens, UKIP fodder.
