Odd story this. It appears that the motorist was seen to be driving a Nissan Elgrand. I had never heard of this model, so I googled it. It must be a very rare car in Britain and even more rare in South Wales, so I can't understand why the Police haven't managed to locate the driver, in the 3 days since this serious assault happened on Saturday. The local paper has a photo of the vehicle and I can't see the number plate but I am sure that the Police could detect it, using the same technology that is used in the dozens of Safety Camera vehicles that are on our roads ::

Of course it's deplorable, it's assault and does the excuse for a grown man no favours - a ticking off or a picture on mobile and call the police to ask if they'd speak to the boy is fine. I love the comments of 'Sweet now but what if....' shall we apply that to all wrongdoings ?

None of the 'Pro punchers' have a comment on my 'What if' at 15.50pm - interesting.

Just seen this thread & am finding it hard to reconcile some of the comments with "the facts".

Kids throwing sweets, what will they move on to?

Drivers punching 11-yr olds - what will they move on to?

This man needs to be found & given a custodial sentence IMO.
The strength of your argument defeats me.

Sorry, I meant escapes me. Wrong is wrong, and you're wrong, again.
DB,right so here's a point,if this guy was justified why didn't he stay and face the consequences as surely the Police would view it as exactly as the child deserved, wouldn't they?

Did his bravery desert him the minute he had attacked?
The response was seriously over the top. But it is understandable that folk take umbrage at kids whose parents teach them that it's ok to throw things at passing cars, or are so useless as parents that they fail to bother to teach them it's wrong. I have no doubt that the law will explain to the driver that he got it wrong too, as soon as he is caught.

Lie-in King...I have been trying to find out, on the 'net if the Police have found this man and his rare car yet but can't find anything more up to date than todays post. I shall keep trying. Somebody must know who this man is. The place where the assault took place is not a very busy main road, so it would seem safe to assume that there is a large possibility that the man lives not far away.

I repeat that his car is seldom seen and isn't sold by regular Nissan dealers, but by personal import only. I'm sure that the Police have punched (sorry!) "Nissan Elgrand, white, South Wales" into the DVLA computerised records by now. Perhaps they are farther on with their investigations than they saying.

More power to their elbows !

a kid threw a sweet at a car and it's ok for the driver to get out and punch the kid in the face??

what is wrong with some of you, how anyone can think that is acceptable is beyond me...
OG I can't believe that the parents taught the kids that it's Ok to throw things at cars. Nor can I really believe that they've failed to teach them that it's wrong. They'd have to know that they were doing it first. And perhaps they didn't.

Those of us who are of the "it's a chocolate today, might be a brick tomorrow" view might like to look at the corollary to that. i.e. "It's only a punch in the face today, might be a shooter tomorrow".

OG... there is evidence that these kids were not supervised as closely as perhaps they should have been but no evidence at all that any parents taught or encouraged them to throw things at passing cars. There is only one guilty person here and that is the driver.
/why didn't he stay and face the consequences/

let me jump in there and save someone else the bother

it'll be something about the 'hands-tied police and the lefty liberal judiciary who always side with the criminals in order to appease the lentil munching PC brigade who know that the eussr and their lackeys the court of ooman rights will prohibit any proper punishment such as birching, flogging or a length of rope'

well something like that anyway ;-)

Zeuhl...not the flipping lentil-munching nonsense again !

Great - the law is ineffectual, so I'll just get out of my car and punch a child.

Problem? What problem???

Unless you are being ironic as well - with your smile?

In which case - fair enough - but because we are all in print, it is sometimes difficult to work out who has their tongue in their cheek.
Well now the thread has got wind ups on it, I'll consider my input at an end.
sounds a bit rough in Wales boyo!

Mamy...its never this exciting over at the Crossword Help Forum, is it !
Mamyalynne - I would respectfully suggest to all posters on this thread, and others like it, that irony and teasing are left out - it's really not a subject to joke about.

Hear Hear Andy !
The motorist should be ashamed of himself. Regarding the car though - the article said the vehicle was "thought" to be a Nissan Elgrand. It`s pretty easy to mis-identify a vehicle if you don`t get a good look at it.
