...but part of me kinda wishes he could have a little slap on the wrist and have it forgotten.

What are your feelings on this?

I feel conflicted.

I laughed. I expect he’ll be disciplined though – hopefully not harshly.

I can't believe that he didn't think anyone would see him. Bit stupid, he looked like a bored young man not thinking of his duties. He deserves a dressing down for making the Regiment look lax expecially on his Royal appointment. Amusing but like you a conflict of emotions there.
From the breaks in the video I suspect a hoax.

If not, then why shouldn't he put a spin on his job - just like Tony Blair used to, and every PM since has followed suit.
they're not in battle, it's ceremonial. I posted a video clip on the first page - it makes John Cleese look restrained
SP - I have just been sorting through postcards for our charity shop. One of the last ones was of Greek men in skirts with guns. If you want I can send it to you - but I can't imagine anyone finding such an outfit attractive. :-)

This soldier should be reprimanded - as per the rules. But he showed nothing but a sense of humour. I understand the importance of discipline in the army but it isn't as if he moved (far) from his intended route.

A decade from now people will be looking back and laughing at our reaction to such a thing.

Hopkirk - you beat me to it with the Pakistani and Indian soldiers. Bizarre!

//If he plays his cards right, he could end up on next year's 'Celebrity Big Brother' //

'Strictly' at the very least! :o)
SP from Wikipedia " Tsarouxia [the shoes] are typically made of a number of pieces of stiff leather hand-sewn together and have a characteristic pointy nose, usually covered by a large woollen pompon. The latter was a relatively late addition, originally a way of making the shoe nose waterproof, but increasingly became an essential feature for their decoration."

I have to hold my hand up and confess, I've never seen an episode of Strictly.

We're an X Factor household.

Make of that, what you will...
I would rather have my arms gnawed off by a hungry wolverine than spend 5 mins watching Strictly !
I think it should be adopted as standard military procedure, much more entertaining than our usual marching.
I very much doubt that, Mikey.

ST, I like competition, but X-Factor seems like competition for the most heart-wrenching stories! I just want them to get on with it. Can't watch it.
Oh...OK then...just the one arm then !
Programs like Strictly are just childrens programs, made for adults. Brainless pap.
I'm gutted.........

I agree 100% with mikey!
ChillDoubt, when I made my sort of humerous reference to Nelson tuning a blind eye I was pointing out a famous incident in British history which hinged upon an officer ignoring an order from a senior officer resulting in a major victory for the Royal Navy. I believe that Nelson's commanding officer was forced to resign in disgrace over his handling of the campaign.
"Humerous"? Now that was funny:)
Didn't Voltaire write about a British admiral being executed to encourage the others?
Nelson's commander got off lightly.
I haven't read about that one , Sandy; however, Voltaire was French, so does it really matter what he said or wrote?:)
Interesting, Sandy. I see that he once served in Newfoundland. An unusual term describing his "Allegiance": Kingdom of Great Britain.
I totally agree with Chilli and Sqad. This soldier has no place in an elite unit. He should be disciplined according to the Regs and transferred to somwehere like the Catering Corps, or whatever they call it now.
