/// The Prime Minister told MPs that the crisis in the Middle East must not be dismissed as 'nothing to do with us'. ///

/// He said the jihadist insurgents in Iraq, Syria, Somalia and Nigeria would 'come back and hit us at home' if the UK did not help defeat them. ///

/// The damning warning came after former security minister Baroness Neville-Jones claimed Britain was sending more Islamic extremists to Syria and Iraq than any other country in Europe. ///

Or is it a prime example of those who we have welcomed to our country coming back to bite us where it hurts?

It is only 9 months ago Cameron wanted us to war to ASSIST the plucky Syrian rebels.

Now he wants us to go to war AGAINST them.

In a Government characterised by its many U-Turns, this has got to be the Grandest.
A very simplistic view to hammer the Government there Gromit.

These are Islamic extremists he is talking about, not your average rebel. Even the rebels have since disassociated themselves from them.

It is goign to be a problem AOG. They will cause terror within our shores.

How to deal with it? I erally dont know. Personally I dont want to see boots on the ground in Iraq or anywhere but I also dont see how we can sit back and assume it is not our problem.

Even if we dont take part in air attacks or similar being in the West and full of infidels will be enough justification to attack us as part of a Jihad.
I doubt parliament will get a vote on any military involvement after the bloody nose Cameron got last time.

ymb,

Do you have any evidence that the good old plucky rebels have disassociated themselves from the big bad extremist jhadists/ First I've heard of it.
I too have wondered about the veracity of the PM's claims of terrorists returning home to continue to wage war here.

I suspect it is an effort to gain sympathy for whatever involvment his government is going to lead us into next.

I recall the Americans' jusitification for Viet Nam being to 'halt the spread of communism' wich really did not take place, at least not in proportion to make the loss of billions of dollars and millions of lives appear justified.

I think Mr Cameron should be concentrating on finding out why militants hate the west so much, and seeing if some diplomatic sense can be talked first before we go barging in - again.
We know why they hate the west Andy. They hate anyone who doesn't conform to their way of life.
TTT - i think that is a little over-simplistic to be honest.

Given the West's propensity for ceaselessly invading their countries and trying to force democracy onto tribal people still living in the twelfth century, it's not hard to understand why they feel a sense of persecution which can easily be whipped up into jihadist activity.

Facts confirm that terrorists are always a minority, and since it is patently clear that military action is utterly futile, then maybe determined efforts at dialogue would be a better way forward for all concerned.
