1. UKIP.........23
2. Labour......18
3. Tories.......18
4. Greens......3
5. LibDems....1
6. Welsh/Scots/NI*....1

This is pretty much what I expected.

UKiP win as expected.
Labour will be disappointed not to get more seats, but have gone from 3rd laxt time to 2nd
The Conservatives did not do as bad as expected, but have gone from 1st last time to 3rd.
LibDems. The expected wipeout nearly happened, winning just one seat and dumping them to 5th. A very bad night.
Greens beat the LibDems, a great result for them.

There is something for us to be cheerful about this morning...the BNP has been wiped out. Nick Griffins lost his seat to Labour in the North West. Lets hope that this is the last we see of this odious little man.
Upsurge of right wing Politics throughout Europe.
Serious? Or no big deal.
Bulk buying of Ibuprofen in Leftist Party HQs across europe, sqad?
It sure was a big swing to the right Sqad, seems as though the UK are not the only country fed up with the EU and their expensive controlling stupidity.
How do you work out the Conservatives are third? According to your figures they're joint second with Labour.
I have warned about the rise of the Far Right many times before Sqad. Yes, of course we should be worried. The European Far Right are hiding behind their current banner of being anti-EU but we know what their real agenda is.

For example, look at the Wiki entry for the "Front national" in France :::

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Front_(France)

In Austria, a country famed for its previous attachment to Ultra Right politics, the Freedom Party made big gains. In Hungary, the Jobbik Party has made similar progress. The Movimento Sociale Fiamma Tricolore in Italy doesn't even bother to hide its real intentions. Imagine a Ultra Right party being active in Italy, another country famed for its liking of Fascism...not difficult is it !

its not as if this hasn't happened before is it ?
naomi...this is the current position, according to the BBC ::

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/politics/

As the morning progresses, this may change, but not by much I would have thought.
'its not as if this hasn't happened before is it ?'

And politicians still decided to ignore its people having learnt nothing from history.
Mikey, Ah, I see. The Conservatives have slightly fewer votes than Labour but the same number of seats.

If you feel the far right is on the rise across Europe, don't you think it would be a good idea to seriously try to ascertain why it's happening?
Bloc nations have never worked and never will - when will we learn, people will always want control of their own country and nationality eventually.

Naomi,
// How do you work out the Conservatives are third? //

1. UKiP...4,351,204 votes
2. Labour 4,018,804 votes
3. Conservative... 3,787,644 votes
4. Green... 1,244,475 votes
5. Liberal Democrat... 1,087,390 votes
As I see it, all these Far Right parties share the same objectives....anti-immigrant, anti-Jew, and anti-gay, to mention just a few. They are just hiding behind the anti-EU agenda. They attract the same semi-educated, skin-head thugs into their active midst that they have always done.
Thanks, but I know now Gromit. I don't suppose it makes any real difference though - Labour and Conservative have the same number of seats.

I do not think this is really a lurch rightwards across Europe and especially the UK.

It was essentially an anti-EU vote. The rest of Farage's policies are Conservative ones not far right.

In the Eurozone countries, the anti-EU votes stems from the imposed austerity and general cluelessness of the European Central Bank and the dominance of France and Germany.

I don't believe they are united by fascist principles, they are united by theor dislike of the EU.
Question Author
Naomi,
Labour came third at the last EU election even though they had the same number of seats as UKiP who came second because more people voted for them.
No one was daft enough to claim that Labour was joint second 5 years ago.
Naomi is right here. Its the number of seats that counts. But the real tragedy of this election, is that a party that has no enthusiasm whatsoever for the EU,
( apart from taking its lovely cash and lavish life-style ) is now our leading representation in Brussels. Who will now look after our interests ? The Party that doesn't even attend the debates very often, and when they do, just disrupt the proceedings ? Doesn't sound very likely to me.

An empty gesture if ever there was. Even if you don't want Britain to remain a Member of the EU, surely all of us want Britain's interests to be
guarded while we are there ?

Whatever we all think about the EU, what is the point of sending UKIP to Brussels ?
Gromit, when I said that I hadn't seen the figures, but as I subsequently said the Conservatives have fewer votes than Labour but the same number of seats. Labour beat them by a few votes. What's daft about that? It's accurate, isn't it?
Mikey, //But the real tragedy of this election, is that a party that has no enthusiasm whatsoever for the EU, ....//

Clearly the electorate has no enthusiasm for the EU - and that's what the main parties are ignoring - hence the outcome of this election.
You voted UKIP naomi ( I hope I have that right ! ) Do you trust UKIP to look after Britain's interests in Brussels ?
You have that wrong. I voted Conservative.
