//It took me ages to find the "a-word" in "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport",//

I'm lost. What on earth is 'the a-word'? If someone will enlighten me I'll do my best to be suitably offended. Thank you.

It's the short version of aborigine I think.
Oh, right. Tut! Dreadful! (Did that work?). ;o)
If John Peel were alive Methyl he wouldn't in a grave in which to turn.

Here is the Wikipedia List of Songs Banned by the BBC. It does not mention one of the songs which we have been discussing this last few days:

Ok then.
lol, so all de white folks done agree, de N-word is totally inoffensive and dey should be able to use it when ever dey feels like it.

according to the latest on this matter

the record came not from the BBC library but from the DJ's own collection. which kinda puts responsibility for content back on him. not suggesting the BBC were right, just that Mr Lowe ought to be a bit more aware of what he's putting into his (self-compiled) show.
heavens, naomi, I thought you never took offence? You've said so often.

Mushroom, good point. But I still think you can't be expected to know every word of every song, even in your own collection. The recording was a lot older than he is. An unfortunate accident for which he apologised and that should have been the end of the matter.

I see the mayor of London has not hesitated to have his say about Radio Devon - apparently it's like Boko Haram, so I suppose the poor DJ has now been sold into slavery.

Nothing like getting carried away with the sound of your own voice, is there.

Just type in Google "songs banned by the BBC" it makes for interesting reading.

Louis Armstrong's "Mack the Knife" was banned in in 1959 because it might incite gang violence.

Perhaps it should still be banned today?

/// Louis Armstrong’s “Mack the Knife,” from The Threepenny Opera, was banned in 1959 because of worries that its jazzy tune might incite gang violence. To be fair, it’s a pretty catchy tune about a violent murderer. ///
jno, who said I was offended? I said that is offensive - and it is - to people of all hues.
// I still think you can't be expected to know every word of every song, even in your own collection.//

I often wonder if a radio station might one day play the album version of "Games Without Frontiers", not realizing how radio-unfriendly that version is....
LOL, they soon edited that ( games without frontiers ) for radio purposes, mushroom !.
Those Australians, theirs is a world apart:

It's blatantly obvious that as the product carries the name of the originator that no offence should be taken, but I'd bet cash that it will be.
