Well this just about takes the biscuit, why isn't there certain qualifications a person should reach before being accepted in certain positions in the police service?

ummm...yep. I know.

no joeluke, sexist nonsense, the same sort of stuff you have been spouting on AB for ages.
Ridiculous, Joe!
Here's one...

Say if a woman trains as a lifeguard, but all the current lifeguard on her stretch of beach are men, and because of that, she is forced to wear swimming shorts with no top...would you say that she had a right to complain?

It's the same thing.

Oh, and before any man says, "Phwoar...I wouldn't mind being saved by that", in my analogy, she looks like Anne Widdecombe.

Only if she's applying to play Emma Peel in 'The Avengers'.
sp......female lifeguards wear red swimsuits

Have you never watched Baywatch?

She didn't even need a 'smaller weapon' a quick poke about on the web confirms the Glock 17's Trigger is adjustable and a 'Grip Reduction' can be carried out by a Gunsmith.
its not a case of pick and choose, however it is about common sense, it must have come to the notice of her superiors that she was quite petite,
if they didn't think she was suitable material for this job, why did they let her.
emmie........'no joeluke, sexist nonsense'

If you read one of my posts I said that any male with petite hands who also couldn't reach the trigger shouldn't be a firearms officer either
Chewn

From the article it appears the firearm handles can be adjusted...which kinda makes sense.

Also, this wasn't just about the guns being used. The complain was also about ill-fitting safety equipment (helmets and knee pads).

What it boils down to (from the upheld complaint) is that women who we're physically smaller than their male counterparts, were given arms and safety equipment which impeded them, so they had a harder job proving themselves than their male counterparts.

Seems fairly straightforward...but it would be interesting to hear from any firearms experts on AB who can confirm whether the grips on these particular handguns CAN be adjusted.
You also said a police officer would be better off working in the canteen.
Sorry Baldric...only saw your post after posting mine.

So...it appears that these women had a pretty strong case.
ummmm.........that would be an appropriate place for a petite male too
So take them off other police duties because they are petite?

gives info on the Glock and the armed forces

I can understand why the authority she is working for is going for a standard gun, for reasons of inventory control and cost, and that is fair enough.

But as I understand it the grip size of the Glock can be easily adjusted to accomodate smaller/medium hands, and in those circumstances, the failure by the authority to accomodate that is grounds for a case on gender discrimination grounds.
