Didn't we have a TV mini-series over 30 years ago called ROOTS, Kunta Kinti and Chicken George..................?

All about slavery.
watched it last night excellent film
Question Author
Yes sqad. Roots received 37 Emmy nominations.

I look forward to the next slavery film in 2045.
Gromit...LOL...
Yes we did have a series about Slavery in the 1970's, Sqad. It was about Kunta Kinte, a Gambian lave.
Wasn't Chicken George the founder of the Kentucky Fried Chicken Empire ?? :-))
//Who'd have thought it? //

of course the academy wouldn't be expected to nominate the film that's far and away the best of the past 12 months, hmmm??? :-)
Mornin red......LOL...
This belongs in Media & TV under sub topic Film.

Don't think so AOG,

We have discussed the film in the News Section before.

For other reasons and not just because of it being given BAFTA nominations.
not sure why you are so surprised gromit, even with your anti British stance you have to accept that we do some good work in the entertainment industry.
ANOTHEOLDGIT, I have heard and seen this being talked about on radio and tv news programmes and not confined to media programmes.

And are not radio and TV news, media programmes?

I think I hear the distant sound of a Barrel's bottom being scraped again!
ANOTHEOLDGIT, does that mean we'll not find links to tv or radio programmes in any of your news-related questions or answers?
Good news indeed for Steve McQueen and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Bodes we'll for the Oscars - only a couple of years ago when we got Best Actor and Best Director in the same year (Colin Firth and Tom Hooper for 'The King's Speech'). Fingers crossed we get a repeat this year.

Incidentally Gromit, I don't see why this can't be in the News section. If others can ask whether films such as these should be made (and furthermore, ask the same question twice in two months), I can't see any harm in your question celebrating a British success story.

Although, saying that. There are some on AB who might not consider Steve McQueen and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

They say things such as 'just because a dog is born in a stable doesn't make them a horse'.

Others don't say as much, but hint at the same.
'well' rather than 'we'll'.

Damn autocorrect.

Anyway...I shall be watching the film on DVD after Sunday lunch. Hope it's as good as the critics are saying...

That'll be the reason they discussed it on the Today programme on Radio Four and on the BBC News rather than a film programme, just to wind up folk.
