Oh dear, not where the money was supposed to go, was it?

But as it's a Panorama investigation I'll reserve judgement for now, in light of their 'slave labour at Amazon' effort that proved to be anything but.

Corruption amongst global charities seems to be coming ever more widespread.

I stopped supporting Save The Children when they got into bed with GlaxoSmithKline who have allegedly done much to cause widespread suffering by excessive profiteering on lifesaving drugs etc.
Unfortunately it isn’t the first time that a charity had made a booboo and it certainly won’t be the last. Yesterday’s charity 'mishap' described at

I only support one charity known for making tea.
i was just listening to this on the news, oh dear indeed.
Well ChillDoubt while you're rubbing your hands with glee I do hope you only invest your money in ethical funds!

Yes it's a bit of an own goal but I'm sure we have people giving out yards about it while their own pension pot is invested exactly the same funds or atleast don't know or don't care

What do you call a hypocrit who points out the hypocracy in others I wonder
Does it matter where the money is invested as long as it gives a good return? Same with my pension pot, it's not big enough for me to have the luxury to worry about it.
well it could if its invested in companies that deal in arms, arms manufacturers, that kill those poor people who's money it is supposed to help, aid. so your donation may be a double edged sword so to speak.
"What do you call a hypocrit who points out the hypocracy in others I wonder"

The same thing as someone who's happy that at least they can make the trains run on time?

JTP,
Calm down dear and stop frothing at the mouth. Who's rubbing their hands in glee? I've already said I'll take it with a pinch of salt.
As for 'investing my pension pot funds' I have one with HM Forces and one with the NHS so in all probability my fortune won't be made on the back of an arms company nor with any pharmaceutical company that made Zyklon B.
Wassup, still smarting from the Soldier of Allah thread?
You're certainly not your usual chirpy self this morning!
like the Italians in WW2, or should one say Mussolini, do you mean that.....
They have a responsibility to get the highest returns for the charity - unfortunately this appears to be the best return.

Hardly newsworthy imo
it is newsworthy

Millions of pounds donated to Comic Relief have been invested in shares in tobacco, alcohol and arms firms, BBC Panorama has learned.

It includes £630,000 in shares in arms firm BAE Systems and more than £300,000 in alcohol manufacturer Diageo.

The BBC has also seen evidence which suggests Save the Children censored criticism of energy firms to avoid upsetting corporate partners.

Both charities deny any wrongdoing.

Comic Relief
I'm not sure why anyone would be shocked, that amount of money corrupts everybody to some degree.
so you donate to comic relief, they invest the money in the distillery trade, or whatever one calls it, those who make, distribute alcohol, the same charity then gives part of your donation to those outfits that help people with alcoholism,
or invest money in tobacco companies, same applies, so you give money that can be invested in these operations, that can and does harm to people, not sure how else to explain that.
why can't they invest in businesses that don't have these associations.
it isn't so much about corruption, but good practice,

Yeah, why not? Go all the way and invest it into Asian sweatshops and the like, get a massive return off the back of child labour.

CU3, does the word 'ethical' not register with you?
I don't see an issue with it - and yes I am ethical!
Question Author
Clearly not! LOL
Thats funny as in peculiar .More that can be said about the programme Comic Relief
Perhaps I am pratical and don't live in a land of make believe Chill!
