Whereas I am not defending anyone who is stupid and irresponsible enough to drink drive. but where will it end neighbours checking on each other say on a Sunday lunchtime, waiting for each other to drive of the drive, follow them to the pub, note how much they drink, then on the mobile to the police?

Isn't that the Swastika that I can see hiding under the EU flag in your Avatar Tora?

Well this is the type of thing that the Nazis specialised in, eg getting even family members to spy on each other for taking part in anti Nazi practices.
I believe you're getting the Nazis confused with the Stasi, AOG.
I`d rather see them spend their £10,000 on subsidising taxis over the christmas period so that fares are not so prohibitive that people are tempted to get in their car and drive.
The logical next step is, when you are driving, you are encouraged to dobb in anyone who is speeding.

Using your hands free phone, obviously!

This would be a popular policy. On a thread a while back, I made the mistake of saying that I didn't think breaking the speed limit was a very serious offence, and I was torn limb from limb.

Given the view that the majority of ABers have about speeding, encouraging motorists to rat out anyone who was speeding would be a hugely popular policy.
Definitely, along with all other crimes.I would do it for free.
'The logical next step is, when you are driving, you are encouraged to dobb in anyone who is speeding.'
No, that isn't logical, as you have to actually catch someone speeding.

Just follow behind them at the same speed as they are doing and then take a photo on your own speedometer. :0)

No you are right I haven't thought this through correctly , I'll just get my coat.

Jayne, I've told you a million times not to exaggerate.
How long before Sat Navs and smart phones, and anything with a GPS capability, are linked to a central computer, so that as soon as your device is moving on a highway at more than the speed limit, you get a notice giving you 14 days to dob in the person who was driving, or else be fined yourself.

It would massively reduce the incidence of speeding.
"A reward will be offered for any information leading to the apprehension of the offenders". Seem to have seen that before. And the courts have the power to reward helpful citizens out of the public purse.
This scheme has a certain public appeal. Some people do this already, unrewarded, but a little extra Christmas money would not go amiss!
Afternoon TTT - unrelated, but can you change your Avatar please? We've had complaints!
I like the irony of that.

The Nazis suppressed the freedom of expression of several groups of people.

T T T picks an avatar which could express several things, including the possibility that, beneath the way that the EC operates and controls its member states, there may be more sinister elements, reflecting perhaps a more totalitarian administration.

It is an avatar which seeks to expose totalitarian values, wherever they may hide.

Is expresses a valuable sentiment, and reminds us never to forget that we must be wary of people who try to control our beliefs and our freedoms.

And, ironically ...

Someone, or maybe more than one, has demonstrated the totalitarian attitudes that T T T is trying to warn us about, by seeking to suppress T T T 's thoughtful and important avatar.

Totalitarianism, and the suppression of thoughts with which you disagree, or, in this case, which you have failed to understand, has once again reared its ugly head.

lol
Maybe you'd feel different if you had relatives who dies in concentration camps JJ.
(no it wasn't me who complained). You also have to remember that this site is run for commercial purposes. The presence of a swastika, whatever it's underlying statement, may not be seen to be good if your advert appears next to it.

p.s. you seem to be in a very strange mood today.

That's one viewpoint, zacs.
My cousin was killed by drunk driver...she was only 16 , vehicle mounted pavement....so yes....throw the book at anyone caught over the limit...ought to be zero tolerance imo....
I saw it as more of a statement of facts than a viewpoint JJ.
A statement of facts expresses knowledge.

A viewpoint expresses belief.

If we are looking at the difference between knowledge and belief, we should start with ... oh, I dunno, Socrates and the inquiring mind? Plato and the theory of forms? Renee Descartes who existed because he thought he did? George Hegel and the rational individualists?

Or you can just accept that I'm right, because I posted post number 100 on the Good Morning thread today which means, under the Rules of AnswerBank, that I am right, all day.

That's a rule.
