TTG we were only speaking of this last week, you have no friends in work, only colleagues, one thing in common, your job, you retire or get saked, the friends dwindle after a short while, then they could be talking behind your back

Friends are those you know you can trust, I've a good few, but one that means more than others. I can talk to her about anything and know it goes in one ear and out the other, she's brill

I've made friends at work. Four that i have now known for 15 years, although i left there years ago. I could ring them at 3 in the morning if i needed to. Why do you think you can't make friends at work?

pixie, I suppose 15 years is exception to the rule, we were talking more having worked 3/4 years

I get where you're coming from with 15 years, my Dad was in a career for over 30 years and half the company are our godparents etc., but in short term employment I've found after leaving a job, the 'friends' made over time in that job dwindle

I worked with them for 2 years originally,but we have all been friends now for 15 years- even though only one still works there. Everyone else is doing different things.

I also have a friend i worked with when i was 18. She was 21.we only worked together 3 days a week for a year. 22 years later, we still see each other at least twice a month. I think it depends more who you get on with, than where you meet them.

A true friend is something to be tresured - you may. It. E in touch for weeks, even months - but when you need them, they're there for you !

I don't believe that to be true. When I left my then husband for Mic I found that none of my friends were true friends, so I have never opened up to anyone since. Sad really so my only true friend is Mic.

Trusting in someone's confidence does not define true friendship. I have always kept confidences, no matter what. It makes no difference whether the person is a friend or not.

My belief is that you don't have to enjoy regular contact but if they are a true friend they will always be there for you.

I think you have to be a true friend before you get one yourself. If you do find one, treasure them for they are rarer than gems, yet they sparkle in your life.

I have friends at work, I see them outside work. It takes time to build relationships.

I retired 10 years ago. Two of my colleagues are good friends, we email all the time. We meet at least once a year for a meal (I now live 75 miles away) with four other members of staff. We have a really good night catching up on everyone's lives. I class them all as very good friends. I also have a friend who I worked with 30 years ago. We meet occasionally and phone sometimes too.
