I am sure someone has not forgotten it, but how did it get on there. after all it must weight quite a bit and if they got that on board then doesn't really show excellent security does it?

There`s no rule against taking gold bars on an aircraft. Sounds like an inside job to me.
I've left books, magazines and once, my sunglasses on a plane.

Always managed to take my gold bullion with me when we landed.
