I don't think so, even if his dad was a raving marxist it does not justify using that to knock Ed.

// Was our Ed wrong to protest too much? //

No, he was absolutely right to correct a shameless piece of gutter journalism.
"Was our Ed wrong to protest too much?" Is that you or the Guardian begging the question, AOG ? If only the latter, why do you think it necessary to repeat the fault?
It's interesting that the Daily Mail which found it so repugnant when people criticised Thatcher after her death, to score political points...finds it perfectly okay to drag the reputation of someone who fought for this country during the war through the mud...to score political points.

Rank gutter journalism.
/// But that's typical of the Daily Fail, picking on the dead who can't answer back. ///

Don't all newspapers do that from time to time, take the case of Jimmy Saville?

And who were those who criticised Lady Thatcher so viciously after her death, wasn't it the 'Left'.

So I think you have shot yourself in the foot by bring the late Lady Thatcher into the argument.

Is that a serious question? REALLY?
You're comparing a now infamous child abuser with the immigrant/refugee father of the current Labour leader who served this country at a time of war and who's only 'crime' is one of being a Marxist?
Honestly?!
AOG

"And who were those who criticised Lady Thatcher so viciously after her death, wasn't it the 'Left'."

Yes...and the Daily Mail criticised 'the Left' for it.

And now it does the same.

Do you see what I mean?

Hypocritical.

But then again - this is the Daily Mail...!

What do you think about the current 'fury' of its readership on this?

Do you think they are feeling 'outrage' or perhaps they're 'stunned'.
sp1814

The left were the first to carry out their attacks on the dead Lady Thatcher, so aren't the left now also being hypocritical, criticising the Daily Mail?

People in glass houses should not throw stones.

Yes and quite rightly so, I also condemn them for their action, but that is the 'Right' minded people we are on the right, but we do get more annoyed at the hypocritical 'Left'.
You may not have noticed AOG, but even in the Thatcher case there were still some members of "the Left", myself included, that defended Thatcher from all the criticism, or at least that called for respect for the dead. So at least some of "the Left" aren't being hypocritical at all. It's a non-argument to try and say "you did it first", anyway, as if you go further and further back you might find a case before Thatcher, and then so on and so forth.

Many DM readers, clearly, are condemning the article regardless of context. Will you do the same, AOG?
aog

you're missing the point

there is a significant difference

some people (not I) criticised Lady T on her death, regarding some of her actions.

For the most part there was no disputing that those actions took place - just disagreements on whether they were right or wrong.

What The Daily Mail has done is besmirch a man by putting a ludicrous 'spin' on one item and totally misrepresenting him

Some people criticising Lady T were wrong (depending on one's pov), cruel or at least insensitive.

The Mail are worse.
They are despicable and brazen liars.
Geoff Levy doesn't actually believe Ralph Milliband 'hated Britain' - he just wants to deceive as many readers as he can into believing it
No AOG

Think of the order in which occurred.

It's the Mail which is displaying hypocrisy!

Surely if you critique a group for something then do exactly the same yourself, then you are being a hypocrite?
The Daily Mail spins like crazy. There is a minority of people who don't see it.

"The left were the first to carry out their attacks on the dead Lady Thatcher, so aren't the left now also being hypocritical, criticising the Daily Mail? "

Not everyone on "the left" did so. For the record, "the left" is not one homogenous group of people who all think and do the same thing.

No, this is one in a long string of disgusting incidents from this foul rag.
Propagandists have always relied upon half - truths and untruths, innuendo, and that their work is read by people who are minded to accept the stories and opinions they promulgate and who, therefor, do not read these with a critical or analytical mind. It also helps propagandists to have or create someone or some group to hate.

Accepting the above for the moment, is the Daily Mail propagandist ?
Interesting reaction to this appalling article.
I hope it backfires on them. At least it's heartening to see objections coming from people who are not Labour supporters
Ironically, apparently the Tories are furious that their conference is having any possible headlines stolen by this furore.

Spectacular O.G. by Dacre.
Typical Daily Mail. Even Dave thought it was wrong to have a go at Ed, by denigrating his father. If anybody wants a reason why the DM is loathed by the educated classes, look no further.

But it stinks of its connection to the Tory Party. If they think that the DM can win the next election for them, they are sadly mistaken. It didn't work in 1997 and its not going to work in 2015.

Attack a man for HIS beliefs, not his fathers.
