Seems to me this chap is using the race card when it is not at all called for. being the highest-ranked black officer in the West Midlands Fire Service, can't be all bad, can it?

AOG

"if he was being discriminated against do you really think he would have reached the position he has?"

YES!!!!

What is it that you don't get???

If he has the qualities and ability to be three ranks higher than he is, then he could claim that he has been passed over unfairly.

You need to take off your rose tinted glasses and accept that every now and again, racism affects people.

Unless of course in your world, everyone is 100% equal?

Is that what you think?

That seems quite naive.
Why then AOG did you say that it can't be all bad for the man to be the highest-ranking black officer, if your point was to say how not all bad it was for a black OR a white man to attain that position ? [Pause for you to make your 'defence' that you were merely quoting the Daily Mail saying he was the highest ranked black officer. If that is to be your answer, please explain why you didn't see, if you didn't, that you were giving your added words to his being black. After all,you never merely quote verbatim from that paper without thinking, do you?]
I suspect that some are prejudging Commander Simpson - based on the fact that he is a black man with a complaint.

Hardly. I'm basing it on the fact that he bears a striking resemblance to Frank Bruno (which he can't deal with) and makes it look as though he has been henpecked into the case and is at the hearing at the behest of his wife, not himself.
We have a surgeon where I work who unfortunately is the spitting image of Fred West. He knows we refer to him as Fred, but out of earshot.
Strange he's never made a big deal of it in the 15 years he's been there.
