Of course the country has changed, and immigration has played its part in that. But like all changes it has its positive and negative points. I'm inclined to believe that, at least in the long term, immigration brings more benefits than problems.
My reaction to that was, good, he's not coming back.
Let me guess, has he got another film coming out ?
Nothing at all ironic in am immigrant criticizing immigration :)

Given his expressed opinion, I do wonder why he feels impelled to to fly "a large union flag" on his front lawn on Mulholland Drive.

I do agree with him on the weather though.
Hands up those who'd like Vinnie Jones as a neighbour.
The thing with Paris, is you can't easily drive there

I'll bet Tom Cruise (or whoever) is chuffed.

Gwyneth Paltrow is a more grievous loss.
that quote didn't come out right at all, did it? It was supposed to quote vetuste...

Many people fly flags there, often the Confederate one which woudl be far more contentious.

and anyway America was founded on immigration so no one should have a problem.

jno, I was driven round Paris by a Parisian late at night in his car. Never again; they are nuts even the old bill who cut him up and forced him into the bus lane (after he had cut them up) !
I am not disputing his right to fly a flag - I am just questioning why, given his expressed disdain for the UK, he feels especially impelled to fly the union flag?

You are perfectly correct that the USA was founded on immigration, which makes his comments all the more ironic, in my view.
//“It’s not the country I grew up in. It’s a European country now.//

ROTFLMAO!!!

Said the ex-pat who now lives in LA presumably because it's so much more British!
LA

Non-Hispanic Whites: 29.4%

London

44.9 per cent White British,

Still laughing
Can't say I agree with him because where I grew up has had a high concentration of immigrant families since as far as I can remember, so as far as I'm concerned, there's been no change.

I can't speak for those from other parts of the country...

Incidentally youngmafbog, excellent idea posting two contrasting links.
Just a thought...what on earth does Vinnie live on???

I mean, the last thing I recall seeing him in was X-Men II.

Wonder if he's on benefits?

(Joking).
"London

well people like you would find it funny that whites now make up the minority.

Its absolutely sickening whats been and is still being allowed to happen to this country and its identity.

Lets see how much you laugh when these immigrants finally sink the country

oh hold on you dont care because your beloved eussr will be taking us over as part of their dictatorial empire
Well I left 25 years ago for the same reasons, so yes I do agree with him

I've often asked the question but without answer, when is the benchmark set? Where in time was the UK so perfect that you are now bemoaning its decline? chris1957au, if you left 25 years ago can I presume it was going downhill sometime say a decade or so before that? Anyone?
Octavius

I can only guess the benchmark was set in the 50s.

But like I say - that's just a guess. I don't know anyone who was alive in the fifties, so I've nothing to compare against.

\\\\ I don't know anyone who was alive in the fifties, \\\

I was.........ask me.

I agree totally with Vinnie.
So sqad, should I assume this is not childhood nostalgia - was it going downhill in the 50s or did it start after that?
