Do You Belong To A Political Party?

Newsnight has just announced that only 1 per cent of us belong to a political party. Do you? Why? Do you know anyone who does? I used to belong to the Conservatives but that was only because my wife was an A-list candidate for the Party. She noted, with dismay, that most members, making the average, were women and well over 60. Odd to think that they were on selection committees for candidates, though she was selected.

I knew the barman at the conservative club and he let me drink there without asking for a membership card , does that count?

CP. Don't trust the others.
No. I am horrified by them all and I wish I could think of a good way out of it.
I'm proud to be part of the sensible 99%
^vapid
^ poor
^Yes, because of the 99%
No, never have. When we lived in Wells, 30 years ago, our next doors were members of the local Con club because the booze was cheap and it was a good place to eat. They put us up for membership and we went with them one evening for a drink and to be "looked over" We disliked the process so much that we never went back.
Me and my mate joined a Conservative Club once just for the cheap beer and snooker

Does that count?
My grandmothyer was a Conservative Party councillor in the 80s and 90s, and my mother (or father, I can't remember which) belonged briefly to the Labour Party but never really did anything about it.
I joined the SDP when it started.
No I don't but if I did it would be UKIP. I don't like everything they say or do, but they make a lot of sense (to me) when speaking about the European Union.

Oh well, chin up eh?

Are all the tories on here alcoholics? (maybe just 99% of them)

Yes, Eddie, it does. The Con Club in Canton (Cardiff, not China) was the most popular with young Cardiffians. They had the same policy.
Party membership does seem to be mainly about access to cheap booze after hours. I'm surprised it's as low as 1%.
I was a member of the local Conservative Club as I used to play table tennis for them. I wasn't however, allowed to play snooker there.........
You can be a member of a Conservative club without being a member of the conservative party, they are two separate things. Our local Con club is full of lifetime Labour voters, they are only there for decent/ cheap beer and a comfortable seat.
Quite right too craft, table tennis tables are no good for playing snooker
I was a member of a Sports and social club. Does that count.
