And is it fair that Zoo, Nuts, FHM etc are being told to cover up, when Attitude (which features equally 'salacious' pictures of men on it's front covers) isn't?

Cosmopolitan has male naked centrefolds and topless men throughout doesn't it? Assuming 'bits' means topless.... I don't think Nuts does nudity.
octavius I don't buy cosmo but the last time I flicked through it there were no male nude centrefolds
''flicked through it at the hairdressers'
Do you not remember the Adam Levine centrefold picture.....?
no but feel free to post a link...LOL!
I suppose thats a bit unfair, he was doing it for charidee. But cosmo as far as I know still have a male centrefold. It doesn't bother me, its like looking in the mirror sometimes.
'some are most definitely much more pornographic and they can be found amongst those other mags listed' - I suppose it depends how hard you look
I'm a little concerned about this news. Are there cannibal tribes still flourishing somewhere in this world & if so are the Co op depriving them of their
monthly catalogues of what is on offer in the western world ?. I can see Brussels getting involved in this with threats of the freedoms of the individual being eroded.

Lol@Octavius. Are you sure it wasn't Farmers Weekly you were looking at. ;)
Pathetic !
They lack the ability to get the real thing so they have to resort to pictures,. What an admission of inferiority.
You really mean that? You don't think people in relationships read these mags or watch porn?
Good write ups about cars to.

Eh? are you saying that men who lust after pictures of women in mags, are not getting the "real thing?"

That may be the case, but i bet that many men who ARE "getting the real thing" are the one's who are looking at the magazines.

Modeller...could i put it to you, that the "real thing" has become so boring, repetitive and uninteresting" that looking at the provocative pictures in mags, brings back the past pleasures.....even if it is only in their mind.
Ummm, its usually people IN relationships that have to resort to pictures!
//that the "real thing" has become so boring, repetitive and uninteresting"//

Just takes a little bit of effort so it's not boring, repetitive and uninteresting.

Ah but Octavius - the difference between Cosmopolitan and (say) Nuts or The Sunday Sport, is that the nudity is on the inside, never the front page.

Also, when Cosmopolitan or Attitude run their annual 'Naked' editions (normally for a cancer charity), the issue will be delivered sealed.

Personally, I can see the reasoning behind Co-Op's decision, because by and large, they are unable to put these magazines away on the top shelf (as newsagents do), because the physical design of supermarkets don't lend themselves to having top shelves.

One has to wonder though - is the Co-op demanding that the publishers actually pay for the extra packaging themselves?
Question Author
Oh, and by 'nudity' I refer to that thing that some of the lads' mags do where they put a star over the nipples.

What's all that about? Why is the nipple the rude bit?

Sorry...just asking random questions out loud now...
When I was a paper boy, many years ago, I would have thought it terribly unfair for these mags to be covered up. First they put them up on high shelves where the paper boys can't reach...now they want to put them to bags !

But as a responsible adult ( well, fairly responsible) It can't do any harm to make them a little less obvious I suppose. It would seem the Co-op are going to stop selling them altogether, unless the magazine proprietors agree.
How long have these publications been on the market? I would presume a fair number of years, then why is the CO0Op suddenly getting rather upset about them?

Are they getting more explicit?

Are the Co-Op customers getting more sensitive?

Or are some of our guests finding them offensive?
The woman arguing to have them covered up was white British.
