Would this type of thing be beneficial to children as young as five, or only create confusion?

Sp.......if you've never seen a 'Merry Xmas Mam and Dad' card in a shop then you're obviously:

a) not looking in that section

or

b)walking around card shops with your eyes closed at Xmas
"So how come we don't see Merry Xmas ‘daddy’ and ‘daddy’ – or ‘mummy’ and ‘mummy’ cards in High Street shops then if it's so 'normal'? "

Maybe its just the wrong time of year joeluke, and haven't most of them gone bust. I know Asda sell Mr&Mr wedding cards, so maybe come Sept/Oct the cards you are looking for will become available.

quite a lot here joeluke, anyone takes your fancy, i'll get it for you, for xmas
"the cards you are looking for "

LOL
Can't see the problem with that. Where we will need to worry is when happy BIRTHDAY Mum and Dad cards become available (!)
It's a pathetic argument. Like a card lets us know what is normal within a private relationship...
Ichkeria, you should go and see what cards they have on sale in Norfolk then!
joeluke

Actually - I've been thinking about your argument, and if you change 'Merry Christmas' to 'Happy Anniversary', then you're point holds water. There are very few 'Happy Anniversary Mum and Mum / Dad and Dad'' cards for same sex couples, but that may be because the market is still relatively small.

This will no doubt change over the next few days as demand increases - in the same way that Clintons now stock a (very small) selection of civil partnership cards (as opposed to wedding cards).
i always buy my mum and dad a joint xmas card (but i am tight). However, the availabilty or otherwise of cards does not dictate what relationships occur. I have never seen a "to mum and your lover xmas card either but as 48% of marriages end in divorce, i bet there's a fair few of "mums +lovers" in the country
Just occurred to me that if same sex parents were to be introduced into school books then the next question from the children would probably be ---how did the daddy get the baby into the other daddy?Or mummy into mummy?
anyone with any sensae at all is honest with children, so I'd like to think most same sex couple would have pre thought that Andres and would have headed that quesiton off by being honest with their child, so I doubt that will much of a problem. Some other children might ask mind you, and when they do they should be asnwered honestly.
typos all over the place :(
"Well, sometimes a man and another man fall in love with each other. They can't have children of their own, so they take in and look after another child who needs love and care..."

It really isn't that hard to explain.
Sharingan,I was making an observation re the schoolchildren who would be reading the books not the offspring of same-sex couples .
and the answer remains the same, just tell them the truth. Why would you wish to misinform and lie to children ( even if it's just by omission) about anything and put them at a disadvantage? Children accept things well if they are treated with maturity and this will help greatly in squashing the problem of homophobia.
SP, //What a thoroughly perfect answer. //

Thank you. I've yet to hear one rational answer against it.
"not the norm, no matter what the gay lobby say"
Yes it is, and most intelligent modern thinking people including those not in the "gay lobby" would agree.
"So some think that children as young as five understand about gay relationships? absolute Poppy-Cock"

Just who the HELL do you think you are to ask for opinions then give this sort of INSULTING answer? (this coming from the person who is always accusing others of insulting him)
You really are the most atrocious hypocrite, Git.
5 year old, "But you told me a mummy and a daddy make a baby."
Where does the conversation go from here at a 5 year old's level?
If we ever get a Male to Male Royal wedding how will they decide who is the 'Queen' ?
