/// Sir Michael, a former headteacher, told the Sunday Times: 'Where those youngsters aren't getting jobs, then they will be attracted to organisations like the English Defence League, and we need to worry about that as a society.' ///

In his role as Ofsted's Chief Inspector, he would be better employed worrying about why some 'poor white children' are underachieving, and then taking measures to reverse the problem, rather than using this disgraceful situation to make a political point?

Anotheoldgit, why then did you ask if "he would be better employed worrying about [under achievement] and then taking measures?" Is it because it was about white children or was it another chance to defend the English Dense League?
The biggest influence on a child's life is, surely, their parents. So if a child underachieves at school it is certainly in part because they get not enough support at home, either. Whether that is because the parents cannot provide support , or because they just don't, depends on the particular family. But either way it is to some extent the parents' "fault".
AOG, As far as I’m aware the quality of education within our schools isn’t dependent upon ‘racial grouping’ - and if this failure is due to a lack of funding, or poor quality teachers, other children would be similarly affected. Many immigrant cultures are fully aware of the advantages of education, and quite rightly, help and encourage their children, whereas a considerable number of parents within the indigenous community, sadly, do not – and, like it or not, in this instance the blame must rest squarely upon their shoulders. I get the impression that you’d love it to be otherwise – but it isn’t.
Lets leave out the ludicrous reference to the EDL. This Inspector is paid to make assessments of all children in school in Britain...his politics are irrelevant to the issue in question.

Why aren't the parents of these poor, white children making sure that their children are studying hard in school, getting the necessary qualifications, and therefore arming themselves in the search for work ?

If the offspring of these poor, white adults are not getting jobs, perhaps they should go and ask some of the local Polish population how they manage to find work.

After all, these "foreigners" are only over here because there are jobs for them to take. If poor, white people were so desperate for work, why aren't they doing these jobs ? They wouldn't or couldn't do the work, so the employers have no choice but to employ immigrants to fill the vacancies.

According to this report it is the black children that are showing concern.

Notice in the last paragraph "“There are all these initiatives to help black children", if it is now that the white children are under performing, perhaps they are now in need of 'all those initiatives" to help them also?

/// Black children can be high achievers and we know this because hundreds do so every year. But when exam results data is compiled the statistics are undeniable: black children are trailing behind every other racial group despite having exactly the same talent and potential. Clearly, there is something happening within society, possibly the home and, most crucially, within our schools that is holding them back. ///

/// Leading black educationalists Dr Keith Davidson and Dr June Alexis recently published Education: A pathway to success for black children – a guide to overcoming barriers to educational excellence. ///

/// The authors, with more than sixty years between them as teachers, researchers and Ofsted inspectors, are unequivocal about what is to blame when it comes to black children’s attainment: “It is the education system that is underperforming", the book notes. ///

/// Alexis, a former headteacher of the predominantly black John Loughborough School in Tottenham, north London, said: “I am tired of the negativity surrounding black children. Don’t get me wrong, we know there are some problems but it lies not with the children, it’s within the schools. ///

/// “There are all these initiatives to help black children and still there is no change. Who is evaluating them? Are they even effective? Because, quite frankly, they are still letting our children down.” ///

In the same way that better-off parents hand on opportunity and advantage to their children poor families have little to pass on but disadvantage. It's hard to see what measures could be taken to change things for the better.
Rather than whinging about it, what is the EDL policy to reversing the situation, AOG? Tell us, we would be most enlightened.

Why don't the EDL stand for democratic representation and a seat in Parliament or local Government - that's simple to answer, they would be wiped off the electoral map cleaner than toilet paper on virtually everybody's rear end.
If one of the Dense League stood he'd probably think voters were writing his signature on the ballot paper...
The EDL are not a political party, they are a protest group. They represent no one. Just a collection of like minded individuals. We would not normally take much notice except that their marches tend to lead to breches of the peace and arrests.
My comment was tongue in cheek....maybe they should grow some proper testicles and see how popular they are. "We represent the working class when it comes to Islam" (paraphrase quote from Neil's politics show today on Aunty Beeb). No you don't, the EDL is a racist, fascist street group and, in that, is dangerous to the liberty of this country.

"We represent the working class when it comes to Islam" (paraphrase quote from Neil's politics show today on Aunty Beeb). No you don't,

Most polls seem to disagree with you DT, one Poll suggesting that 75% of British Public DO consider Islam a threat.
Yes but not in the way that the EDL go about it with their overt objection - watch the programme, Sqad, as I did....
It's about integration, not segregation.......the former something that the UK has proudly extolled over the decades and centuries.
DT.....I did and have started a thread in News......"No FOOL."
"No you don't, the EDL is a racist, fascist street group and, in that, is dangerous to the liberty of this country. "

I'm laughing so much it hurts....whereas people like you and the sort of groups you support are a danger to the identity and future of this country

but then your sort couldnt care less if we are overrun with africans, asian, muslims etc etc etc or anybody else for that matter.

as long as the white identity and majority is destroyed you couldnt care less
You don't mind if the immigrants are white and Christian then?
I wonder if the changeover in South Africa had come about violently and hundreds of thousands of our 'kith and kin' were seeking asylum would we still hear the talk about this country being overcrowed and we can't take any more?
Baz -- you, and your White Supremacist rubbish... it's pathetic.
Personal achievement in education is not about race or colour – it’s about culture. Given the encouragement at home, children from poor families, regardless of nationality, are not automatically doomed to failure.
