/// The columnists, Mike Resnick and Barry Malzberg, responded to claims that their descriptions were sexist in another bulletin, where they wrote that "all we did was appear in a magazine with a warrior woman on the cover, and mention that a woman who edited a science fiction magazine 65 years ago was beautiful. If they get away with censoring that, can you imagine what comes next? I'm pretty sure Joe Stalin could imagine it … Even Chairman Mao could imagine it." ///

We could be nearer than first thought.

"Sindy with an S"

My apologies, I've never had to write her a letter :)
"the boys had Ken and the girls generally had Barbie"

OMG, sexist alert!
if i was given only pink lego it would be have been given back, i liked lego bricks, meccano, and anything that made a noise, children like toys that do stuff, some girls might like my little pony or an inanimate doll, but generally i liked toys that were moveable. It's to engage and entertain in equal measure.
Octavious, if you are a chap, then unlikely you would have been on the receiving end of much sexist behaviour, sexism in the work place, i did because i mostly worked in men only businesses, industry. It wasn't a time of being able to claim for harassment or being taken notice of, it was expected you would put up with the comments, banter.. sometimes it went just a bit too far.
"boys had Ken" - good grief, how many boys do you suppose bought one??!

Ken was for the same girls who bought Barbie; it was to give her a super cool boyfriend.

Females are not the only ones to suffer from this type of thing, this also happens if a man works in a predominately female domain, what a guy has to suffer would certainly make your maiden aunt blush.
AOG reading the Guardian ?

I may have to sit down for a minute and have a glass of water !
Water? Really? Not sending the wench to the galley to fetch a flagon of ale then?

/// AOG reading the Guardian ? ///

Always prepared to witness how the other half think, it makes for a fertile and open mind, unlike some who are only prepared to look how far their rose tinted specs will allow them to see.

"unlike some who are only prepared to look how far their rose tinted specs will allow them to see."

But yeah, my dads bigger than yours so nur.
Oh , I don't know. Some rose-tinted specs allow the wearer to see a very long way back into the past.
If the title of AoGs thread was not meant ironically, that last post of his was surely- surely - meant to be ironic?

What else could it reasonably be, from someone who continually writes purple prose (presumably affected by the rose-tinted hue of their spectacles) about the halycon days when everything was so much better :) ?

Good on you though, AoG, for straying outside your comfort zone of the DM once in a whiles.....

Oh - and can you explain what on earth makes you think that if this report had been published in the DM, everyone here would have castigated it?
Don't get me wrong AOG....carry on reading the Guardian....please !

Because of past 'EXPERIENCE', just as past experience of those halycon days when most things were so much better.
