I was a bit puzzled by the bit of ranting that went on from some young muslims on the news. Saying that these bombers where angry about Bush and Blair invading Iraq.

If this is the case, what excuse do they have for the 9/11 event.

A lot of young people form their own opinions, that are maturer for their years than some of the opions expressed by adults.  We all know this.  We also all know that some young people are particularly impressionable and will easily absorb the opinions of others.  They may well have picked these ideas up from older people who are very persuasive with their words.  If you've seen the episode of Spooks where a young Muslim boy is persuaded to be a martyr, then as much as we can believe fiction, you'll have seen that youth can be persuaded of anything by figures they trust.

I think the Iraq war (sorry, THIS Iraq war) is just an example of what some Islamic extremists are against: the spread of Western Capitalism.

The truth is that if there was no war in iraq the apologists for mass murder otherwise known as islamic fascism, would have used another reason, like the palestine issue for instance, i just heard one british muslim  ''angry''yoof say that there are people dying in iraq every day, he forgot to mention that the main killers of these muslims are the islamic terrorists like the 24 children muslim btw blown up by a bomb...
War is war be it civil or not. Sadam had his method, Blair and Bush have theirs. I'm sorry.

As for your 9/11 event - it happened and once Bush had put down "Pete The Goat" jumped on what he had been waiting for - get Saddam!

Of course they answer to his (their?) provocation. Lucky Bush, aren't the muslims (sp.) wicked suds.....

They said that Americans were "Infidels" and should be punished ! The same $hitey excuse they used when they tried to blow up the twin towers almost a decade ago! I laugh at the Iraq issue arguement as Saddam killed hundreds of thousands of kurdish and shi' ite muslims so we get rid of him (albeit our excuse was flimsy) and then "the insurgents" kill scores of muslims every day and that is Blair's fault? Afghanistan was a just cause!  But remember this 9/11 killed almost double the Brits than the London Bombs.
The israeli Palestine problem was at its peak just before the 9/11 bombings. A few palestinian leaders and holy men were brutally murdered along with a few 100 palestinian passersby just a few days before 9/11. At the time this was considered to be the trigger for the twin tower attacks.
But surely on reflection it was realised that 9/11 must have been planned for months.  Something that was that successful (you know what I mean - I don't think it was a good thing, but it WAS successful) couldn't have just been on hold to put into place at a moment's notice.   Could it?

I agree acw i think (from watching a documentary on the subject) it took years planning! The palestine issue would have been an excuse at the time ! If that hadnt happened it would have been some other (rap made up excuse! (you cant learn to fly a plane in a couple of months)

You are correct acw...it was planned for months and puts my previous answer in a bit of a tangle. Remember Osama Bin Laden wanted the Americans infidels out of Saudi arabia...which he considered the holy land. That was the main aim....the rest (israel/palestine) were supporting the cause. Britain was Ok as it always was sympatehtic to the palestinan cause and made the right noises and did see the israelis as the aggressors. But Iraq and Blair changed all that.

I'm glad you guys see my point.  :-) I suspect that there are underlying reasons all the time.  It's still basically an "anti-Western-capitalism" thing.  I'm sure there are often events in the news that we could identify as a trigger - like the ones you guys have mentioned in your posts.

I have to say that I also feel Blair gets too much cr@p for all of this.  The Conservatives would also have gone to war - they said as much.  It's only the LibDems who've repeatedly stood up against the war.  So I think it's just the general state of UK-US relations, rather than one man personally.  But I guess that's another debate.

Surely it's another Catch 22. The Allies (UK, USA etc) could completely pull out of the Middle East and let let them get on with killing each other. What credit would we get for that;?
