Although not widely reported the EDL are to carry out a peaceful Downing Street protest, but various Left-Wing groups have said they will also attend, which as past experience has shown will turn the proceedings into a confrontation between the two sides.

Should the other groups join in with the EDL in common support for our soldiers, or failing that shouldn't the EDL be allowed to protest alone, then we could either see their correct colours or see that they are only there for a peaceful protest?

Or wouldn't that be in the best interests of the Left?

Just a small point but isn't Downing st closed to the public?
They'll probably create havoc in Whitehall.
it is. After the IRA lobbed a bomb at it some years back i believe.
welcome to my world.
That's what I thought Zacs, how can they protest in Downing Street, it wouldn't be allowed?
they can protest outside.
a Downing St protest needn't be in Downing St, it can be at the entrance.

Dotty, they already had a protest in Newcastle; apparently it was quite chummy

As I said, they'll create havoc in Whitehall - at the gates of Downing Street.

I'm a bit concerned about the EDL after listening to a bunch of teenagers talking last night. They've seen a few coherent EDL members put what seems to be a reasonable argument across. After the beheading of a soldier in such a manner the teenagers think they (EDL) have a legitimate cause.

I did point out some basic facts which I can only hope they listened to. Always start with the youtube clip 'EDL Ray guns'

Did anyone see the clip where Tommy Robinson gets a slap from a Muslim? That's the kind of stuff they are accessing which shows the Muslims in a bad light.
and they can access info which shows young Muslims shouting nonsense about this is a Muslim area, get out, as some did fairly recently in the capital, not to mention telling a young man with make up he was a f ag, and a young woman she looked like a prostitute, as bad as one another.
//That's the kind of stuff they are accessing which shows the Muslims in a bad light. //

They don't need to access that kind of stuff - they just needed to watch the news last Wednesday. Nothing could have shown Muslims in a worse light!
nor seeing that odious Anjem Choudary being given air time on the BBC shortly afterwards.
I meant how they suddenly sympathise with the EDL.

What happened last Wednesday is beyond barbaric but it wouldn't encourage me to start showing support for the likes of the EDL. Impressionable minds though!!
nor me, but you can see why some of these groups spring up, you don't have to like them, or indeed agree with anything they say, but i can understand it.
//I meant how they suddenly sympathise with the EDL.//

Of course they do. As you say, they are impressionable - just as that maniac who slaughtered the soldier was impressionable when he listened to Choudary's bile. It didn't occur to him that Choudary had no intention of dying for the cause - he just encourages everyone else to do it!
I agree with you, Gromit.....
From the Metro:

// Around 1,000 supporters of the far-right group marched through Admiralty Arch and on to Parliament Square, eventually chanting ‘we hate [David] Cameron’ and ‘coward’ outside Downing Street. //

They seem unaware that Dave is in Ibiza.
Do they not read the papers...? Can they even read?
