Last Wednesday (before the local elections) he said...
// //  The Prime Minister, said that he was prepared to introduce legal safeguards before the end of the current parliament to guarantee that a referendum takes place after the general election. Previously he has promised to call a vote only if he is re-elected in 2015.
The legislation would be designed to demonstrate that he is committed to calling an in-out vote by 2018 after Ukip and other sceptics claimed that his pledge was meaningless.  //

And less than a week later he admits...
// The Prime Minister said that his Coalition deal with the pro-European Liberal Democrats means the Government cannot introduce legislation paving the way for a vote on Europe after the next election.
Mr Cameron’s comments on legislation, in a private letter to Conservative MPs, come only days after he dropped a pre-election hint that he was prepared to consider the option. //

Why should we believe ANYTHING he says?

It was always pretty obvious that there wouldn't be an EU referendum. I can't believe anyone thought there would be.
Gromit, I would check my calender if Cameron told me that tomorrow is the 9th.
Should we believe anything any politician tells us?.
How can any Prime Minister think that he can legally introduce a law compelling his sucessor to do something?

It was a ridiculous notion
The whole idea was a gimmick from the start.

Q How can you tell when a politician is fibbing?

A When is lips are moving
He's both. Cameron's rather toxic brand of insincere, slimy and faux-conviction politics (which to be fair is a direct product of Blair's era) has been pretty transparent ever since he became leader of the Tories.
Yes, echoing Jake's comment, I was confused about the idea that you could pass a law enforcing any future govt of whatever colour to hold a referendum, or indeed do anything, on somethig. And the chances of that getting past the Lib Dems was always zero anyway.
I always thought Cameron was a nice man out of his depth. He's not doing anything to make me think again on that. If the rumours are true about dropping the gay marriage bill in the hope of placating UKIP, then that would change my view from "nice man" to "desperate Dan" :-)
Liar. Like when he promised to implement Leveson as long as it wasn't bonkers.
We shouldn't believe anything he says because he is an MP.....and a Tory. But in response to the OP........he's both, of course! People fell for his lies and rhetoric - they wanted a tougher stance on many things.....but now he is cutting services, letting the rich and corporations get away with taxes and robbing the disabled/old people, they have decided that they don't like it! Let's put things in perspective.....over half the cabinet are eton cronies and, multi-millionaires (who have given themselves a nice tax cut); his wife's family have one of the largest estate in the country - yet we still pay for his second home and expenses; and he does so many u-turns he is constantly spinning round on the spot. Even the IMF are telling the Tories they are fuffing everything up.....but we all know that anyway......and let's not get started on Cleggy.......
Let him say what he likes, he's not long for the job now. That's either PM or party leader.
like all politions they tell you what you want to hear and some people are stupid enough to believe them...
Very well said, lcg.
...but I don't think he's a liar. There's a difference between deliberately misleading people and having to chop and change for whatever reason. If you knowingly state something to be the case which is not then you're a liar, and I don't see that Cameron's actually done that.
Anyway, if "all politicians are liars" there's no point swapping him for anyone else :-)
What's happening ? For once so far, we ABers have all agreed, and with Gromit. ? !
Oh.....and people can blame all our current woes on labour as much as they want to, but it was Maggie that invented the concept of flogging off public utilities (and we are sorely paying for that now), selling off council homes (and now we have a massive shortage and the bedroom tax, exorbitant rents etc.), privatising the nhs and deregulating the banks. Not to mention all her little soldiers in the cabinet....IDS/ Hague and Cameron. They say they have cut the defecit by a third, but what that actually means is the monthly running costs are down and they are still borrowing money at the end of the day. The IMF and OECD state they should be investing in more growth, but they are slashing costs everywhere. Still - they got what they most wanted......the opportunity to mount an ideological attack on the welfare state. And look how that's going - robbing the disabled, old people and family homes.
Hang on modeller....we have all agreed so far but AOG has still to put his four penn'orth in

(AOG, if you read this - only joking)
it did seem rather bizarre for a politician to promise that, even if you voted him out of office, he'd make sure his replacement would have to implement his policies. That's nto exactly how the democratic process works.
lcg, New Labour inherited the healthiest possible economy from the Conservatives and look how the economy ended up at the end of their last stint in Government.
As for robbing the disabled - Labour were responsible for shifting many unemployed people from Jobseekers to Incapacity Benefit. I have a friend who tells me they had instructions to do so! This was purely so Labour could claim they had reduced unemployment. There are far too many "disabled" people who are nothing of the sort and should have had their benefits stopped years ago
An idiot, and possibly a liar if he never believed what he was saying.

Our current lot of ministers have a tendency to make grand promises before they've thought it through, or consulted those who are going to have to carry it out. Result? U-turns all the time. The idiocy is in making the same mistake so often.
I still can't help blaming this lot for everything.
