I don't know who the alleged assault was against, but the fact that it was the Yewtree operation that resulted in his arrest makes one wonder if it isn't a paedophilia related incident.
According to he radio news they are charges relating to one woman many years ago but they would not say anything about age. I can't believe it, not Rolf.
When he was playing at Glastonbury there were a section of the crowd shouting 'wife beater, wife beater'

I got told off by someone on here for saying that!
//There is no suggestion that he's a paedophile.//

He's been arrested by Operation Yewtree police. As I understand it he is in the third section which means someone has accused him of misconduct unrelated to Savile's misconduct. I believe there's a good chance that it will be some kind of sexual misconduct since the police operation has been undertaken to deal with sexual misconduct.
Yes...sexual misconduct doesn't mean he's a paedophile. Best not jump to conclusions.
It will be about the kangaroo problems ?

Arresting someone means that there are strict procedures to be followed during the questioning of that person. It acts as a safeguard for the both the Police and the person being questioned.

If at the end of the investigations (including the questioning) it is considered that there is sufficient evidence, the 'suspect' will be charged.

It is best to wait until the 'suspect' is charged before jumping to conclusions.
Innocent until proven guilty. But mud sticks, so Rolf Harris' name will now be tainted, whether innocent or not,
pretty sure some have been charged though at least one has been freed with an admission that pollice were overzealous
Apparently there was a news blackout on this case, until it was broken by the Sun newspaper.

There does seem to be a danger that the police are being extraordinarily illberal and abusing their powers in this investigation as well as in the investigations surrounding the hacking enquiries with the newspapers.

Dawn raids, publically named, even if not precisely at the time of arrest it usually comes out within a short time - and they people seem to be remaining under arrest for ages. Neil Wallis, some sort of newspaper guy, was arrested by the police in July 2011. Had to return 3 times to sort out a bail extension. Took until September 2012 before he was finally told that charges had been dropped and he would not face trial. During that time, all that worry for him and family, under suspension from his job. It must be awful. And I say this as someone who does not particularly like Mr. Waliis!

I think in this instance, YMB is right.....
I don't understand how the police can possibly obtain proof about an alleged incident that might have happened maybe forty years ago. Surely it's only one person's word against another. Also how many of these 'victims' who are suddenly coming forward and are oh so traumatised even after forty years, are just trying it on in the hope a big wad of compensation?
With all due respect dave50, put a sock in it.

You have trotted out that self-same comment for just about every report of arrests following Savile-gate.......and have shown precious little regard for any of the answers you have received to it.
dave50, I think victims of sexual abuse are afraid to come forward in case they are not believed (this is what I read anyway) and the reason all these people are coming forward now is because of Saville and his atrocities, it has given them the courage to speak out and good for them I say. They need closure, not compensation - no need to be nasty.
When I heard this just now my first thought was...but he has painted the Queen......
I'm speechless.
^ I was shocked too. It makes you wonder, who next ?
Well..IF and i say IF these "celebrities" are found guilty (some in their late 70's, some in their 80's) of a crime that demands a custodial sentence........will that custodial sentence be carried out?
I don't know, do they jail people in their 80's? I don't see why not if they've done something really vile.
He is a lovely man, who has entertained lots of people for many years. He is now a completely broken man. It is so unfair, he has made mistakes, as have we all, but nothing to compare with jimmy savile. I am not just saying this, I know him, and he is broken. I feel sad.
to be fair beattie, the only people who will know how he is feeling right now is his family
