Is that his role? Speaking as a non-catholic.
I doubt he will be interested in the worlds problems, he will probably try to address the churches problems through a policy of 'more of the same' and hope for the best.

1. Contraception.

2. End to celibacy.
Question Author
Daisy; I too am a non-Catholic, but he has enormous influence for the general good of the world don't you think?
Khandro >>>> Are you having a laugh.
I'm a Catholic and he has a massive influence, like it or loath it, it's a fact.

ps I know longer believe.
"Khandro >>>> Are you having a laugh."

Er... no????
Agreed Khandro but I fear that so many problems are not going to be addressed by the Church. The use of condoms. Celibacy of Roman Catholic priests. A choice, yes, a necessity, no.
Homosexuality is not a sin. It is a natural part of life.
Women have as much right to serve God as men. Martha or Mary? Jesus did not choose between them.
The first problem I would address would be the Catholic Church itself.

You've probably heard this debate before but its worth repeating here anyway.
..And besides, why do we need a pope? In the month or so that we didn't have someone claiming to infallible, science managed to cure HIV.

I think he will find it a hard job to undertake at the age of 76. I am a bit surprised they didn't choose a younger man this time as it involves a lot of travelling. Still, I suppose if the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh can still do it .....
What about the problem where his deity decides to let a multi-millionaire footballer score a goal because he crosses himself but let millions of people die of hunger and disease?
"Homosexuality is not a sin. It is a natural part of life."

Without wanting to offend anyone, and not saying I disagree, but this is purely your point of view...
It's not the Catholic point of view, that's for sure!!!
what influence does he have on any of the world's problems? His predecesor didn;t manage to solve many of them in all the years he was in charge, what on earth different could this guy do? When last did any pope solve any of the world's problems? Or his own churches' for that matter? Great Expectations is only a novel by Charles Dickens
Yes, my point of view. What is the definition of sin?
The 10 commandments.
Ah, come on.

It's not natural, is it.
but sin is a christian term for doing something wrong according to the bible, for people who don't bother with that sort of stuff it's not as easy to define,
If I read about murder death kill in the paper my first thought is not, 'ooo that's a sin' .
Thats exactly right Dotty.
