I suppose she'd need to earn at least £50000 gross for her net pay to be more than benefits inclusing housing, so I can't see it ever being worthwhile getting a job
Sums up what is wrong with this country.
Good for her - hopefully her sprogs might work & invest in the system
She'd have no time to get a job with all those kids.

Ok I appreciate that but she should be making attempt to get some sort of job - but was also disgusted at the council building her house - she had a house - they don't need to build her another house!!
I dunno, that could be the Mails reporting.

It is The Mails spin on it. She is getting a house on a new housing development. As far as I'm aware all new developments have to build a certain amount of affordable housing. They are trying to make her look worse than she probably is.

It doesn't say if her husband works.
Her sprogs are no more likely to work or be on benefit than some other's sprogs. But what we do know in this overpopulated world/county is that when she leaves she leaves behind many more people than the 2 parents that will be leaving.

The other issue is that by caring for the innocent kids to the extent that this sort of handout on demand goes on, there is no incentive for others not to follow her example. Muggings forced to pay for those with little sense of responsibility. Hard though it may be the only sane path is to provide bare necessities and not spurge out with tax money to make life comfortable for those who think society owes them a livelihood. It doesn't.
You think someone like her might be an incentive for someone to have 10+ children so they can demand a bigger house?

I couldn't think of anything worse.
Her main problem with her current house appears to be that she can't keep an eye on all her children whilst living in two houses, and only having one door as a fire escape is a danger. SO.... why don't they just knock that house into one? Surely that would be the cheaper option?

You can't blame her, though. She is only doing what our country ALLOWS her to do.
Yes she should go out and get a job. Yes she should get off benefits and be a better role model to her children, but what is the incentive these days? The cost of living has gone through the roof, but wages aren't increasing. As someone's already mentioned, she would need to earn about 50k a year just to match what she is currently receiving.
The way the system is set up, it just makes no sense at all.
I suppose MadMen that if they move her out to a larger house then they are freeing up two houses for other people in need of housing.
Ah, yeah. I see your point. I'm sure the Daily Mail must have realised that too. Just re-read it, and it doesn't actually mention what benefits she gets, or did I miss that? We know she obviously gets Housing Benefit, but maybe you're right, maybe her partner works. Would people think it was so bad then?

I don't agree with it all, but no one can blame her. We live in a country where our system makes it more beneficial for some people to stay at home, look after their children and claim benefits. Where's the sense in that?
It doesn't mention her benefits.

They have also built a 4 bedroom bungalow so they are meeting housing needs, not because someone 'demanded' a new house.

Either way, I still think it's wrong.

Her comments though - that she has made is wrong - she goes on about if she does not like the house they will have to build her another - just like they are building this one!!
Actually it makes me sick. If the benefits system wasn't as it is, I wonder if she'd have had 11 children?
FGT, yeah I did do a bit of shouting at the screen when I read that too. Talk about ungrateful!
Naomi, that is my point. The system is allowing this. It's absurd!
And in the article she says that if she doesnt like what they are building they will have to build her another house!
Do you believe what you read in the papers? You don't think The Daily Mail set out to cause outrage?

Naomi - unlikely.
Question Author
No ummmm I don't believe everything I read in the papers but I believe this.
I think it's the Mail dramatising a story that's dramatic enough.
