Can't remember when I last wore a tie. have they been consigned to the dustbin of fashion history?
Or will my nice collection of kipper ties come back into style some day?

Think it depends on what type of job you do Sandy. My son-in-law wears a tie every day to work but never in the evenings or at weekends unless it is a special "do".
Well sandy I have to say that I do prefer to wear a cravat these days !.

Tony, when you're wearing your top hat at Ascot you could hardly wear anything other than a cravat.
it's getting to the point where professionals only wear them round their foreheads after a good night out
Definitely not.....ties go around your neck, and braces go over your shoulders.X
Of course sandy ;-)
My grandfather wears a shirt and tie every day, without fail. Even if he is digging his garden, he will have a shirt and tie on under his overalls.
I haven't worn a tie in the office for about 10 years. It's not been a required part of the office 'uniform' in the same way that it used to be.
I've worked at two different places over that time.

My cousin has rubella syndrome....god forbid any man that turns up to a family gathering without a tie!

My OH has 1 tie he wears for both weddings and funerals.
London city workers wear suits and ties every day – and braces are quite fashionable too.
Question Author
But are the wide braces of the city fat cats a necessity or only a foppish affectation?
The latter.
For my husband, having recently lost a bit of weight, they're a necessity.
I must admit I do likes braces, ive rarely worn them in the past but I could do with wearing then now, my jeans appear to prefer to sit under my belly, however if I lose my belly I may not need them.

I just dont wear them as they really arent fashionable unless you are wearing a suit, jeans and T shirt is a no no.
I hate braces but I think a tie always looks really good. Also, I really hate to see button cuffs on shirts. I wish more men would wear cufflinks. They always look more stylish. Button cuffs just look scruffy and lazy.
^^.... not to mention cheap.
Couldn't help feeling the same at the weekend when Nicky Campbell hosting the Big Question on Sunday AM stood there with his open necked shirt and looked like he has just crawled out of bed. Dumbing down is not the words...just plain scruffy.
hardly any of the males in our office wear ties anymore, in fact i can't think of anyone who does

we are fairly relaxed tho
