There's a lot in the ' how much money you have' scenario. A friend of my wife's new partner was arrested in Goa nearly 4 years ago and accused of smuggling a large quantity of weed of all things. He apparently hadn't and was offered the chance by the arresting officers of paying them £10,000 to make it all go away completely. He didn't have £10,000 so they charged him and reiterated all the way through that for more money it could be lessened, or made to vanish all together. THEN the arresting officers themselves got arrested for drug running, so work it out yourselves, we very probably have no idea at all what's happening to this woman or has happened, but I really don't think she should die.

Not a huge fan of this woman, but I think taking her out and shooting her is utterly barbaric. She should be punished, but not like that.

Anybody who lives in the Far East or has been out there for some time knows that China, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia have zero-tolerance to smuggling drugs. I have little sympathy therefore for her - she took a calculated or uncalculated risk and was found wanting.

Yes, it is harsh but stiffer sentences period is how their society operates more control over the behaviour of the population.

What will happen is that the case will go to appeal - don't think that has been mentioned here, but it was on the Beeb. It will be then that the sentence is commuted to something more "reasonable" - indication is 15 years.

If that fails, then the Government should up the ante; for the moment, leave it to the Embassy to make discreet representation and allow the Indonesians face over this. The message that they are serious about drug smuggling will have been made.

She knew exactly what she was doing. She has to pay the consequences and set an example. Nothing to do with our Government, they have enough in this country on their plate.

I think the death penalty is a bit drastic, no come to think of it, a lot drastic, but she should be punished in some way. Anyone who takes chances like this is either stupid or greedy, or both.

The law for trafficking in drugs in Indonesia is death. She was in Indonesia, caught and convicted of that very serious crime.

What is it to do with the UK?

What can the UK do? change the Law? Ask for hidden extenuating Resistance to be taken into consideration?

We complain about the EU enforcing their laws upon the UK and yet some ABers want to enforce UK thoughts on Indonesia.

No...she shouldn't die and she won't....but who the hell does the UK think it is?
