Could have been nasty - thank goodness the pilot is not too badly injured.

Funnily enough, the one and only time I`ve been up close to a Spitfire was at RIAT (2004) and it had had a nose wheel collapse the day before (think I`ve got a photo of it somewhere).
Glad the pilot is OK....

But....

Sincerely hope the spit isn't too badly damaged.
Bummer, I hope they can restore it.
How many Spits are left now ?.
must be a different plane , spits do not have a nose wheel.
there's a lot coming with the recent finds in Burma and Jordan.....
tony, if they ship those ones back from Burma we should be ok for a year or two.
I knew about the find in Burma but not the ones in Jordan DT.
Right thats ok then baza !.
Only half a dozen or so still fly but there are 40 - 50 including static displays.
When I was at school in Pinner we used to drive past a house that had one parked on the front drive - don't suppose it is still there.
as long as they keep the BBMF flying we will be alright.
Well makes a change from parking the car on it then shoota, I'd be amazed if it's still there though.
I see they reckon that the Burmese find could now be up to 140 of them. I recall from memory about 3 or 4 being found preserved in the desert (one would think a better environment than the Yangkon jungle..).
We could sell some to the French so that they have an airforce.
It was a loooonnngg time ago now T, 45+ years.
Certainly would be DT.
baza I meant the wheels at the front :-) Def a spitfire. The pilot was dressed in WW2 uniform as I seem to remember it was some sort of rememberance display.
LOL, no good to the french DT, they don't fly backwards.
237sj, you are lucky to have seen one up close, I've only seen them flying, impressive in the air must be fantastic up close.
