What a tragic story, a teenage British soldier, waiting in Cyprus for deployment to Afghanistan, allegedly stabbed to death by three British pass-port holders.

He and his fellow soldiers may have been disobeying military rules, but did this young man deserve to be killed?

AOG - "Of which you cowedly chose not to return to when you found yourself isolated in the minority. "
'Cowedly'? I think not! I subscribed to the thread, and ceased returning to it when the responses stopped. If you wish to reactivate it, please be my guest - see you there.

"Who says one should arbitrarily dish out summary executions to people whom they feel should not continue to exist?"
Er, I do for one!

It's all well and fine you mentioning the seriously evil people who have wrought death and destruction, but your mandate must extend to everyone for everything surely. Therefore the chap I accidentally pulled in front of on my way to work this morning, who seemed disinclined to accept my apology gesture judging by his (happily unheard) ranting and non-Highway Code hand-signals, could decide that I no longer deserve to live, and be waiting for me outside my building. That's before anyone with a temper who is upset by your avowed and acknowledged right-wing views decides the world may be a better place without you in it! You cannot simply pronounce your 'death list' and expect everyone else to simply go along - they are too busy lining up their neihbour whose dog has p*ssed on ther lawn, as 'Dirty Harry' so memorably advised in his rebuttal of your vigilante scenario.

"'FREELY' ah! isn't that a lovely word, when some would wish to control what news stories one chooses to enter for debate, the news source from whence it came and even how one constructs their words?"
Can't help you there, I have never criticised your subjects or sources, only the views youo attach to them.

"/// Have you ever wondered why you and other ABers take issue with me on a regular basis? ///

Could it be that this site is predominately occupied by the 'Left' who all group together to not only disagree with persons who do not sing from their hymn sheet, but will insult, slander, and if all that fails, accuse them of saying things that they have not."
I think you are confusing the term 'left-winger' with anyone who disagrees with you - the two are not connected. I am not a left-winger for a start.

"Have you ever taken part in open debate, and I do not mean on a web site where one can hide behind their monitor, I mean in a debating society where a subject is put up for debate, and generally there are equal sides 'FOR' and 'AGAINST'?"
Indeed I have, many times, and in my experience, people are not allowed to sneer and bandy insults about 'hand-wringers' about - becaxe there is indeed no place for rudeness - an attitude that appears to desert you when sit in front of your monitor.

"Congratulations to the few 'FREE THINKERS' on this site ..."
Thanks very much - always a pleasure, never a chore.

Please note, I have ommitted the part where you tied me in as being self-rigteous and so on - as you say, rudeness has no place in a debate, so I will excuse you on this occasion as being carrried away by the passion of your convcitions, but try not to make it a habit, it's not polite.
Unless 100% gulilty of some heinous crime and you support capital punishment when does anyone in any circumstances deserve to be killed? Was this just a rheotorical question to start the ball rolling?
no he didn't of course, though perhaps your post wasn't worded too well, going on the responses you have had. I read through yesterdays article in my paper and it said that one of these young men went out and bought a dozen flick knives, and told the arresting officer that they were to be given to friends back home here. How would that work at the airport, you cannot carry offensive weapons at any point, as far as i am aware, so surely that is a bit of nonsense. Whatever the reason, a young man is dead and these blokes are in custody, let the judiciary there sort it out.

/// 'Cowedly'? I think not! I subscribed to the thread, and ceased returning to it when the responses stopped. If you wish to reactivate it, please be my guest - see you there. ///

Of course one ceases to return when the responses stop, the difference with you in this case, was the fact that once you had entered your 'SO' thread, you didn't enter at all.

/// "Who says one should arbitrarily dish out summary executions to people whom they feel should not continue to exist?"
Er, I do for one! ///

Read what I actually put, mine was a question, but it seems that you are making a statement, which I find rather disturbing.

/// It's all well and fine you mentioning the seriously evil people who have wrought death and destruction, but your mandate must extend to everyone for everything surely.///

Of course not, did I say that it should, once again you are accusing me (no that is not the right terminology) you are suggesting something that is only in your own mind.

Getting to your ridiculous analogy, regarding 'the chap you accidentally pulled in front of on your way to work this morning', well what can I say ????????? you seem to be losing it now, almost reminiscent of your 'SO' posting.

/// Please note, I have ommitted the part where you tied me in as being self-rigteous and so on - as you say, rudeness has no place in a debate, so I will excuse you on this occasion as being carrried away by the passion of your convcitions, but try not to make it a habit, it's not polite. ///

And was it not you who first banded those words around yourself?

As I have already pointed out (and now copied by you) rudeness has no place in a debate, so perhaps you can learn to practice what you preach, and I am sure it will go a long way to make us suffer each other a little more easily, even if we will never see eye to eye.
There lies the difference between us AOG - I don't 'suffer' you in the slightest - I find your willingness to fight your corner admirable, and your tenacity is an example to us all.

I think we both get a little carried away with the passion of our often opposing views, but that does not infer - at least on my part - that we bear any personal animosity towards each other.

See you on the next thread!

Cheers Andy, Exhausting, but enjoyable.

Lets hope my next post doesn't cause so much antagonism, but I make no promises.
I would never want it any other way AOG!

Have a good evening.
