It was only on Monday that I entered a thread regarding a benefit cheat from Somali who escaped a jail sentence.

And now we have a person from Afghanistan who we took under our ever caring wings, only for him to repay us by hurling rocks at the police and setting fire to a car all committed during last years riots, also escaping a jail sentence.

He was traumatised by his childhood in Afghanistan. It's good to see a judge showing mercy and understanding.
I know lots of people who were severely traumatised by events in NI during 'The Troubles'.
Thay went on to live law-abiding lives.
Yes, but remember that the Afghans don't share the Irish propensity for tolerance, forgiveness and pacifism.
He was given a 12 month sentence, suspended for 2 years, had to pay the owner of the car £2000 and has to attend mental health treatment.

I can't begin to imagine what he suffered as a child. I do agree that it shouldn't excuse his behaviour, but it does go a long way in explaining it.

Hopefully he will get the help he needs and become a better person.
Can you really compare it to NI? I don't think so.
Anyone who lived through the Troubles will know what I am talking about. Kidnap, murder, bombings, shootings on a daily basis.
Limbs lost, families destroyed, parents and children killed, property destroyed.
I know, because I lived and worked in the so-called 'Murder Triangle'.
Take a look at the CAIN website.
I know that.

The main difference is the majority of Afghans can't get out.
Afghanistan and NI similarities ....

If you go into a pub in Kabul you have to watch what you say until you've worked out whether it's a Taliban or a Government pub.

Top tip: look out for football pictures or memorabilia - Khazi FC or Jihad Utd

That's how you know which foot they kick with.

What about all those who were 'traumatised' during WW2, and not just service personal, but also innocent women and children civilians?

Blimey you're right! Now that I think about it, mostly they are.

There's no fooling you is there Old Git?

....and how was I meant to do that as a small boy or a teenager? It was horrific.
I wonder how the lad mentioned in the article managed the fare from Afghanistan to the UK?
Question Author
Well it looks as if this method of getting into the country is a definite no-no.

http://www.dailymail....migrant-stowaway.html
how did this guy travel to UK? seems a nonsense to me that he came to a place of relative safety, and repays the favour by rioting and throwing rocks at the police.

as to the stowaway, just goes to show what some will do to get here, or out of whatever country they come from.
Benefir cheats are awful aren't they.
Not like our own Chancellor, George Osborne, who remortgaged his fully paid for home just before he claimed it as a second home, thereby passing the new mortgage to the British taxpayer.
What a good, upstanding Brit he is eh?

He may not be "a good, upstanding Brit", as you put it, but at least he is a tax paying 'proper Brit'.
so was Fred West
so are many, sadly there are some here who don't seem to want to be part of society, get an education, and a job, but bludge off the state and when things don't go their way cause havoc. Welcome to Britain.
