That's rich, I wonder what would have happened if the Duchess had refused to shake his hand, due to Iran's record on human rights?

/// Dont forget my friend it wasn`t that long ago when we the so called civilised country treated women just as bad. ///

Glad to see I am still your 'friend'.

Yes I know it was not until 1918 that women were given the vote 51 years after men had gained the right, but please enlighten me and show how our 'civilised country' treated women just as bad as they do in Iran?

/// Its a fascinating topic AOG, you would enjoy reading about it as the women`s history is a long & sometimes tragic account. From the Stuart period up to Victorian Britain. ///

Maybe it is, but British women even going as far back into history, as you have quoted have still have not been treated anywhere near as bad as the women of certain Middle Eastern countries are treated in this the 21st century.

Except of course for your odd Witch or two, but then look what they also did to men in those far off times. But one should also take into account what men have had to suffer in more recent years.

How many women were forced to fight in the trenches during WW1 or how many women were forced to fight on land, sea, and in the air during WW2?

Perhaps my post was a little too subtle for most of you.

Obviously apart from sp1814 you did not work out that this was a tongue in the cheek post.

Let me try and explain, I was quite aware that it is their custom, and it was not intended to be a criticism of either the duchess or the Athlete, and yes Mike-Talbot I do fully read my own links.

It was merely a dig at Iran's out dated cultural practices, taking into consideration that they are advanced enough to develop nuclear weapons, one therefore has to ask what assurances have we that they will not use them, with a mind set such as theirs?

Ha ha ha ha .....brilliant.
I should have known it was T-I-C ..... how stupid do I feel right now ? Doh!
